Battery in use / store switch

Good Evening everyone I hope someone can fully explain this switches operation. I have a Thor 2017 Freedom Elite and this switch is located just inside the entry door low down on the left. I have been keeping this switch in the store position most of the time even when running on the road. Is this the correct operation ???

I also cannot get my Axxera AV615BHM radio / back up camera to work. Any help here would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance to all of you.

Eric,

Your radio issue is related to your use of the use/store switch.

You should always leave the use/store switch in use unless the unit is in storage unplugged.

Yes, definitely in the STORE position when not in use. Things like the CO detector and other small things will eventually drain down your coach batteries.

Enjoy the Forum, Eric!!

That's what he said, but if it's in your yard why not plug it in and keep your batteries charged (with the switch in use) and pre-cool the fridge when getting ready. You can do that with an adapter and extension cord into a simple 15 Amp house-hold plug.

Don't try running the microwave or Air Conditioner though unless you have a heavy duty extension cord plugged into a dedicated 20 Amp plug. and make sure the electric side of the water heater is off unless you are plugged into at least a 30 AMP RV plug.

Note that on some coaches the CO/propane sniffer does NOT disconnect when in Store.

Here is another important point to remember -- your house batteries will charge from the converter when on shore power, charge from the generator, and charge from the engine-driven alternator when going down the road --- BUT (and this is a big BUT) the USE/STORE switch must be in USE for that to happen. The house batteries will not charge if the USE/STORE is in STORE.

Think of that switch as a battery disconnect switch. When it's in STORE it activates a latching relay that disconnects the house batteries. Disconnected batteries will not charge. When you position it to USE to electrically connect the hose batteries to the DC electrical system.

Thanks everyone for the quick and concise responses. I think I got it now !!!!
The manual sucks regarding this issue.

I still have an issue with the Radio / Back -up camera even with the switch in the use position.

I do have a blue light showing in the mode area which suggests it has power but nothing works. Any suggestions greatly received.

Eric.

By the way: Welcome to the Forum!

If you think of this place as an "Interactive Manual": it'll really help!

(Just consider me to be the "Questionable Comments": scrawled in the margins! )

Hmmm...
Sorry, your 615 is different than my 614. Your volume isn't the power button...my bad.

Eric.

Use a paper clip and reset the radio.

If you lost power to the axera, you probably need to push the reset switch. Maybe paper clip to push it. Read the manual for how to. Will probably have to do that after "store".

I found d a reset hole on the front panel. The end of a ball point pen was used to reset. Instant success. Believe low house batteries caused problem.

Hey Eric, I just bought a freedom elite on the Mercedes chassis and have had a similar problem with my radio/back up camera. It was strange but when my wife plugs her phone into the USB port underneath on the dash, it seemed to short the radio out and it was dead from that point on. The screen still had a glow which killed battery on 2 occasions I had to charge it to start the vehicle. I ended up figuring out which fuse is for the radio and now pull it out when the radio dies and it resets it. Of course I shouldn't have to do that so it's back at the dealership now to fix that and all the other problems I've had since getting it in August of this year. Good luck.

Don't know your coach, but: If you have Axera or something like it that "USB" is for programming the unit. Do not use for power.

You're kidding right? In this day and age when you see a USB port on your dash next to a HDMI port on a brand new vehicle why would it be there to program anything? Just looks like a plain old phone charger and nothing to indicate otherwise.

The USB port on the radio is for input to the radio. You can use it to update the firmware of the unit or play tunes from a stick. The USB port on the dash is for charging devices. On my coach the dash USB has nothing to do with the radio. It is only a power outlet. Knowing Thor, they probably wired something wrong.
