Biodiesel

Hello tec-heads
I own a 2017 gemini with a 350 turbo diesel. Specifications call for low sulfer diesel. Reality is alot of stations have bio-diesel up to 20%. So .........????

Ultra low sulfur Fuel and bio-diesel are two different types of diesel fuels. Most recent (since 2006) diesel engines require Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD -less that 15ppm sulfur) and it's difficult to find anything else at the pump.
Bio- diesel is fuel made from other than petroleum base. It can be regular ULSD diesel with 5% bio-fuel (B-5) or 100% bio, made from animal or vegetable fat. (B-100).
Some diesel engines can only use B-5 to B-20 biodiesel so check your engine manual. Mercedes on their diesel engine (My Sprinter) warns against using greater than B-5 bio-diesel.

Most pumps I've used have label that says "may contain up to 20% bio fuels", it doesn't state exactly what percentage at that moment, but they will all be ULSD.
It's a good practice to use a diesel additive occasionally that contains lubricity, bacteriacide, maybe cetane, to also absorb moisture from condensation, Diesel Kleen, Howes, Lucas to name few.

Thanks for the input. I went down to see eclipse a few weeks ago, left from central Illinois. The farther south I got , I couldn't find any gass stations that sold low sulfur diesel. Casey's,loves, Shell, just to name afew. All sell biodiesel. What does everyone else do in those situations?

You mention Low Sulfur diesel which is 500ppm sulfur and is not available for sale for highway use.

All Diesel fuel available for on road use is ULSD. It will have this label on the pump.

Bio-diesel is blended with ULSD (B-5 B-20 etc) unless it is pure bio-diesel, (B-100.) If more than 5% bio, it should also have one of these labels. (does not seem to be enforced??)
