Coach/House batteries don't start the vehicle engine, CHASSIS batteries do.

'Which' battery bank are your referring to as 'dead'?

Charged up the coach batteries and it fired right up.
Why?

I could only say that it sounds like you have your terms backwards, as charging the HOUSE batteries would have nothing to do with starting your Vehicle. As most RVs have two sets of batteries, and sometimes, like mine, they are actually both in the SAME storage bay, you may be referring to the incorrect one/pair as 'dead'.

Sounds like it could be an interlock problem.

It might be set up to not start when the slide is out, as an example.

Thanks..slide is in.it has been plugged in to shore power the whole time.
Chassis battery is good. Coach batteries out of water. Refilled and charged. As soon as the coach batteries topped off, started like a champ, er, Vegas.

Just did my annual battery maintenance they were both full and each battery was 12.76v.
I keep the coach plugged in all the time, except for the last few days I moved it out of the driveway then it wasn’t plugged in, so I know my charger works as it should.

Once again
Coach batteries out of water..dead.
Chassis battery fully charged. No start
Watered and charged coach batteries...started right up..
My question was ..what is the relationship of coach to chassis battery?
It should, as I understand it, start.

What gives? Help please..
Thanks

are you absolutely SURE that you don't have your batteries 'backwards', meaning that you are actually refilling and charging your VEHICLE starting battery(s), and not your HOUSE batteries? Your House batteries should have nothing to do whatsoever with you 'starting' Vehicle batteries, no matter if they are dead or not. House batteries are only connected to your 12v lights, fans, water pump, etc. for your RV, not for your vehicle.

'Could' your AUX or EMERGENCY START switch be somehow remaining in 'contact' constantly, and thereby draining your Vehicle's batteries? I suppose, but in that case, it would also be draining your HOUSE batteries, therefore they would ALSO be dead. So I don't think that it's a viable concern.

I think you actually just are loosing your VEHICLE batteries, not your House batteries, which is why you can't start the vehicle until you refill and charge them. Makes sense.
You probably have a drain on your Vehicle battery(s), such as a radio or monitor that is remaining on, even if you don't realize it. Being on shore power probably won't impact your Vehicle battery(s), either, as for many RVs, there is no 'charging' of the vehicle's battery(s) just because you are on shore power.

It almost sounds as if it was wired incorrectly from the factory.

The coach / house batteries are used for an emergency start situation when the chassis battery won’t allow the engine to turn over. When the Emergency Start button is pressed, it ties the house batteries to the chassis battery for a boost to start the engine.

I have an Outlaw 29H. There is one positive cable that runs from the house batteries to a relay on the firewall. If I press the emergency start button, it trips the relay and allows 12V from the house batteries to flow to my chassis battery.

I would try to trace the wiring from the house batteries to see where they are going. I would think they should not be providing direct power to the engine.

Yes, factory wired wrong? You would think that with 80% of battery issues on this forum being Axis / Vegas. Thor would chime in with a corrected BIMM wiring diagram? Also steps to diagnose if hooked up correctly?

On a side note...if ANY battery was found "dry", I would replace it/them right away...regardless of starting or not. They have been damaged, will not hold a charge for long and you may get stuck somewhere with issues. If they were run dry as a result of not checking them...lesson learned. If you have been checking them monthly and have to add tons of water, you may have a serious "over charging" situation which could lead to a fire/melt down. Leaving the coach plugged in and store switch in on position will require closer monitoring of the batteries.

The coach batteries under the entry steps

Not the one next to the V-10 engine...it is good, fully charged, clean connections, etc.

Hi Bergen, Since, you mention the “Engine” battery is fully charged and the Vegas “will not start.” perhaps a couple of questions so the forum can help. Maybe a silly question … by “does not start” do you mean it will not turn over / crank … and you cannot even hear the starter solenoid click?
..If so, what makes you believe the engine battery is good and fully charged?

I have had both engine and the 2 under stairs coach batteries dead and had to jump start the engine battery. Have you tried jump starting the engine battery if the emergency start ... using the coach batteries, hold down, emergency switch does not work.

If the engine battery is indeed good and fully charged, and the Vegas is cranking but not starting (firing) you probably don’t have a battery problem.

I watered and charged the coach batteries. Read good. Hit the ignition and it fired right up.
When the coach batteries were dead, the chassis was great..when I hit the ignition, nothing...no click, rrr, nothing.
Since the coach batteries were dead, no sense in hitting emergency start.
Coach up..ol V-10 thing roared to life

I pulled the dash cover and leaned in with the load tester. Full charge.
I have 2m milliamp(&#129312 jump starter for the onan. Cure that next time.
