Mixing Battery Types and Cool Blinds

Two simple technologies that seem useful provided they work correctly.

1) Optional lithium batteries in combination with lead batteries.

2) Windshield blinds that roll from top or bottom for added privacy.

I’m not sure if these are new technogies. Anyone know? Thoughts on value?

“The inclusion of a HYMER Smart Battery System gives motorhomers even more independence. This innovative energy system combines lithium and lead batteries and ensures intelligent regulation of the charge level for even greater self-sufficiency. For added privacy, new, optional roller blinds are fitted to the front windscreen which can be operated from the bottom up or the top down. This prevents outsiders from looking in without impairing the view from inside.”

Found some data on lead+lithium battery system

Since Thor may own Hymer by end of year, this system that combines lead and lithium batteries may be of interest. The data is a little confusing — may be due to translation.

The obvious question to ask is why not go all lithium? It’s only a guess on my part, but I suppose it’s set up to keep initial basic cost low, with lithium as an option or upgrade. They also refer to lead battery as a back-up; which makes some sense for when lithium may not work at all. In those cases the AGM battery may keep controls functional. Not really sure what they are trying to accomplish in its entirety.

Interesting. At first I thought should be no big deal, just add a battery bank selection switch and change the charge parameters. But after a little reading found that it would all be automatic within. Could really not find any details on the hardware. Found the cost for the option for it. It was 2990 Euros which equates to $3500 US dollars.

Peter, could you tell if the $3,500 cost was for one module, or two?

From what I had seen, it appears a 95 Ah AGM is standard, with a second or third 135 Ah lithium as options. The second battery option indicates an additional converter/charger, but the third doesn’t. Additionally, I’m not even certain if each 135 Ah lithium module option comes with its own 95 Ah AGM battery. I expect each lithium battery option does not include more lead batteries.

Specs for a new motorhome shows battery option choices, but no details or costs.

It would be for the second. Here is the link where I found it. Good thing for history.
