Wow. What an interesting radio, etc. My first weekend out and I discovered that you can press and hold the "mode" button to keep the rear cam on. However, when the rear camera is on and I'm blasting my bluegrass music, I cannot turn it down as the vol knob doesn't seem to function with the rear cam on. Am I missing something?

Thanks

Bill,

I do not believe you are missing anything. When the rear camera is on I believe the volume is actually controlling the volume of the rear microphone. At least that is the way it functions on my coach.

As a note, I usually view the rear camera and turn the volume down before switching to radio, or in my case the Aux input for Sirius, so that it minimizes background wind noise coming in from the rear microphone.

Bill,

As Dave stated, you aren't missing anything. Whenever the cameras are activated (rear or side) the volume can't be adjusted.

We don't have a rear microphone on our Axis.

The one and only thing my wife remembers from the PDI is when I am backing the coach and she is in the back watching, she can gripe, complain and nag all she wants and I can't talk back. She calls it Thor's gift to wives.

Those are the things that rate high on their priority list and they don't seem to let us forget it.

Rear microphone?

How do you know if you have a rear microphone on the camera? I have this radio and it does have a microphone for use with blue tooth on the radio itself but can you tell by looking at the rear camera if it has a microphone build into it? Never knew this was a possibility!

The two models I know for sure have the rear microphone are the Challenger and Miramar. We also have the rear docking lights located to the sides of the camera. I don't know about any of the others.

The best way to check is have someone on the outside rear talking while you have the coach in reverse. On mine the volume has to be cranked high because of the distance from the ground to the camera/microphone.

It is a one way system whereby the person outside can talk to the driver but the driver cannot talk to the person outside.

Our Axis has a mic on the backup camera.

It is also really quiet and turns on even when you switch to the rear camera while driving--have to manually turn off the mic if you want to still listen to music/radio/bluetooth/etc.

Thor must have decided not to put it on the 2015s. I had seen a video from some dealership about the Axis and Vegas models mentioning the rear microphone, but when I asked about it during our PDI, they physically checked for it and later on with a Thor engineer and was told it is not included.

I dont think there is a mic on mine(2016 Vegas)... at least I dont hear my wife when I'm in reverse nor the wind (like I remember from my old RV) on the road.

Thanks for the replies. I have a 2015 Chateua 28F so now I will have to go check it out. I think I only have the camera. What we do is use our cell phones while backing so I hear her through the blue tooth on the radio. Maybe it's there but I'm going around it by using the blue tooth.

That's works good too! We don't use the mic either, at full volume still my wife needs to talk VERY loud! We just use hand signals if backing. I have 2 backup cams, Thors camera.....and a wireless cam on my license plate that hooks up to my Garmin GPS, so effectively I can back in myself without help anyways!

Last summer I saw a guy use facetime! He had his daughter facetime him with her phone. She held the phone over the hitch while he backed up (this was to hitch up a 2nd trailer onto a 5th wheel).

You discovered one of the quirkiest things about the 2016 Vegas. No mike on the rear camera, and can't adjust the volume when the rear camera, turn signals or reverse is in use. Had a black and white camera w/mic on my last coach, but it didn't have the side cameras, could leave it on and no effect on volume.

AV614BH Firmware Upgrade

Good Evening -

FYI - The AV614BH has two upgrades that adds additional features to the unit:

URL: AV614BH - DVD Receiver with Built-In Bluetooth & HDMI Input

I followed the instructions provided with no problems -

I'm fairly certain that my Outlaw doesn't have a mic on the rear camera either -

Travel Safe -

You need a flight engineer with you to use this radio while traveling. It has to outrank texting while driving in danger factor. IMHO anyway.

I can get by with hand signals and one arm gesticulations though .....

When doing the firmware upgrades did you use the zipped files on flash drive or did you unzip them first as the instructions state? Reason I asked is that when I tried to unzip the MCU file, it reported as being corrupted and would not unzip. The MPEG file unzipped ok.
I called tech support at the # provided and the guy said I did not have to unzip the files to upgrade, just copy MPEG onto the flash drive, install, then erase, copy MCU file onto flash drive and install.
I do not want to turn this unit into a brick, so wanted to hear first hand from someone who has done the upgrade.
Thanks a bunch.
