Tow Capacity 2014 Challenger 37GT

The salesmen said 5,000 pounds. I think I read on information online reference a new 37GT model rated at 8,000 tow. Not taking delivery for a couple days and not sure if original books/manuals will be available.

Does anyone know?

2014 will likely have a 5,000 lb tow rating. Back in 2014 Thor was putting 5k hitches on; it wasn't until October of '14 when they started installing 8k hitches.

The GT is probably on the 26K GCWR chassis so your towing capacity will be 4 K regardless of the hitch (26K GCWR - 22K GVWR = 4K towing). A 2014 will have a 5K capacity hitch.

You can use the actual Gross Vehicle Weight, not the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating in the calculation.

Unless you are loaded to the maximum GVWR then there is a little extra capacity.

Load it and weigh it before going over 4k

Maybe unrelated but my class C is hitch rated for 8,000lbs but the hitch is only rated for 500lb weight down on the ball. Typically rule of thumb is 10% weight of trailer on ball. I had to move my 7k boat back to get the weight down.

Yep, I hear what you are saying. I really wanted the hitch just to be rated at 8,000 and didn't care much about "pin" weight down. I will probably end up using a tow dolly for my KIA Sorento, which comes in just under 4,000.

We use a dolly four our C-Max Energi and Escape (The Escape is about 3400lbs +/- and the C-Max weighed in around 3800 lbs). With the dolly weight I'm right at 4000 lbs +/- with the C-Max and our Axis only has the 5000lb hitch. So far we've had no issues pulling either car (Have pulled the Escape about 3000 miles now and the C-Max about 1000 miles).

Not following your reference to 4K.

Towing capacity is not GCWR - GVWR if that's how you got the 4,000-pound number.

I agree with recommendation that everyone should weigh their equipment. Can't go wrong with that.

Load your RV with everything you carry and get it weighed. That will give you an idea if you have extra carry capacity left (in the 22k).
