2016 Axis 24.1 fuel reserve

Does anyone know how much gas is left when the low fuel light comes on?

Don't have a definitive answer but I had always understood that the low fuel light should come on when you have about 50 miles left in the tank.

You could always drive it around until the light comes on and then fill it up (tank is rated to hold 55 gallons) and do the math.

Do the math but do not rely on that fuel guage. Mine goes about 1/2 inch beyond the full mark when I top off and just under 1/4 when the light come on.

Standard Ford message center is 50 miles based on historical driving style. If you change the way you drive (increase or decrease speed or drive more in town rather than highway) that distance could be more or less.

Doesn't the message center give you a "Miles to Empty" reading?

Although not as functional as my Fusion and Lincoln message centers the one on the coach does provide Miles to Empty. When I cycle through I get the trip readings for trip A and trip B the elapsed time of travel for A and B and Miles to Empty. My prior class C on an E450 chassis had the same info on the message center. Not sure how stripped of functionality the message center is on the E350 used for the Axis and Vegas.

It is similar; pressing the trip button lets you cycle through trip A, B and miles to empty--not sure about elapsed time.

Thanks. I'll check tonight if I have a "miles to empty" reading.

MH driving you really don't want to let it get down that low. Still might have to run the generator that only runs when you have a 1/4 tank or more. Plus it would really a pain to push this thing to the next station.... LOL...

I put an UltraGauge in my Axis and told it I have a 50-gallon tank. I fill up when it says I have 50 miles to empty knowing I have an additional 5 gallons/50-ish miles in the tank if I need them.

I've only let the idiot light come on once when I was pushing hard for home. Put 53.5 in that tank that time. Way too close to empty.

Regards,

Randy

All,

I just checked and on the 2016 early model VEgas 24.1 with the E350 chassis all you get is trip A and trip B, now matter how fast/slow, in/out, rt/lt you move the selector unit. Was the vehicle's computer dumbed down to do that? If so is it just software that can be hacked?

Doc

I don't have a miles to empty on mine either, just Trip A and B. Mine's a 2016 Vegas 24.1 on an E450 chassis.

Razor,

Now the question is did they dumb down the sensor or the computer??? If so, is it just a computer software setup that can be modified. I think I will try to contact Ford and find out.

I always refuel when the gauge gets to half way between 1/4 and 1/2.

All,

I contacted Ford Customer Service for RV's (1-800-444-3311) and spoke to a very helpful young lady (Lacey) and was told what to do. I will try it at lunch. I have an open reference number so if it does not work (and Lacey is unaware of why it would not) I am to call back to the number above.

I was told that in Ford Manual on page 74 (for the 2015 E350 Chassis) there are instructions for handling this situation. I'll be getting that little black book at lunch time too.

You mean this manual:
2015 Ford E-Series manual (pdf)

Yup looks like page 74 does have instructions on enabling/disabling different features in the dash. Wonder if it works! LOL
