RV 30 amp power cord

While parked in my backyard, I like to leave my RV plugged into shore power. This is very visible to anyone passing by in the alley. My neighbour suggested I drive onto the 30 amp power cord to make it difficult to steal while plugged in. Will this damage my cord? I am parked on earth (vs pavement or asphalt) the ground is somewhat soft.
Seems senseless to ruin my cord to keep someone from stealing it;-) Nancy

If you are concerned about it you could dig a narrow trench in the ground and cover it with a small piece of plywood before driving over it.

It won't hurt the cord at all. Even on asphalt. So long as you don't use the front tire and grind it by steering.
It's really a great anti-theft idea...

Yeah shouldn't hurt it at all.

That is a common tactic used by EV drivers when publicly charging with the included with the car 120V charger--or run the cord through/under the hood.

The chords are not meant to be squashed. After a while the cover hardens. You have a chance of breaking the individual strands of the electric cable. This causes the power to travel over fewer stands. This will mean a higher resistance at the break point. The result is heat that can melt the cover.

I'd dig the trench as suggested.

Also, consider placing some cap blocks under the tires. Raw earth and grass will dry rot tires quicker than a cat can kill a rat.

I'm an extra big "Fraidy-Cat"...
I wouldn't do it.

But that's just me!

I wouldn't do it, even though I have little doubt about doing it a few times not harming it...
instead, I think I would use a standard 20 Amp outdoor extension cord, pulled inside the rig's power cable locker so it's not too easy to disconnect. Would be fine I think to charge and run a few lights...even to preschool the fridge, etc... just not micro and AC at the same time.

I might suggest some stronger security measures...

Use one of these and an extension cord.

Agree, driving on cords will do long term damage and create a potential fire hazard.

I recommend finding a tree, bumper or any object with no sharp edges to wrap cord around and then secure a paddle lock around both pieces of extension cord.

Cord

With all the problems your having with the cord why not install a small solar panel.
