ACE Mods to use space 29.3.

One spot to gather some well needed space if you are a handyman is, I made new drawers for the bedroom in our 29.3. The drawers are only about 16" deep and can be about 21" deep so I made new drawers for the 3 that are like that. The opportunity is there for the kitchen drawers also which can be way deeper at almost up to 28" if you desired except for the bottom drawer because of all the wiring and furnace ducting behind it. The outside Kitchen drawer I was able to make 6" deeper. The plastic mount for the fire extinguisher if yours is mounted in the cabinet by the steps can be taken out and just add a hinged drop down door. When I got my fire extinguisher replaced by Kidde I mounted it back by the bed and put a 5lb extinguisher just inside the door.

Outside bays, pretty much on all of them but the only one I changed is the front drivers bay, you can add a shelf by cutting some boards and laying on top of the lip of the cargo bay. This will give you a shelf about 6" tall that you can store hoses or whatever.

Not using the bunk? Take the back side of the bunk off and just use the front for storage. We didnt need or want a bunk up there but it comes with the coach and was just a waste for us. By removing half of it you gain a lot of storage space and the wife just made a curtain to cover it. It is out of the way so you dont whack your head when getting into the drivers seat also.

Just some FYI storage

Here are a couple of the drawers.
I was able to reuse the drawer slides in the bedroom but had to reposition them on the drawer, the drawer is about 5" deeper back inside when pulled out. 21'' slides were close to $40 a set for good ones.

How difficult was it to remove the back half of the bunk? Any special things you need to do? We agree the bunk is useless to us at this time, and we tried to use it for storage but hit our heads on it.

Hi Bob, it wasnt hard at all, there is a hinge the length you have to remove all the screws and on each end there is the metal angle I think it was that supports the back half and it is attached with a couple bolts to the front half. Those were a pain to get to but not bad. The back half isnt real heavy and I was able to remove it myself. With just the front half you gain a lot of storage space and you dont whack your head when it is down. I originally made an "L" out of wood to fasten so stuff didnt roll off onto your head while driving . That actually worked out well when I ended up turning it into a cabinet, it gave me something to fasten the facia too.

That looks great. Nice job. I love seeing Ideas like this.

I would like to see a trap door in our floor in the bedroom. Lots of room under the rear my RV (No spare tire). Or some sort of drop down storage from the outside that was easy to hinge down and have a spring loaded return.

Lithium Batteries

Today my new 200AH lithium battery arrives and the next project begins. I currently have 2 8D batteries at 200AH each but they just dont perform the way I like so I am changing over to Lithium Iron Phosphate. I have 1 battery coming today, useable down to 20% with no problem which gives me just shy of what I could get out of the 400 AH gels. Of course I had to upgrade the charger. Nice thing is the size of the battery, 19" x 6.5 x 8.5. You can put them anywhere you want but you cant charger them if the battery is below 32* so inside is often the choice since they are so small. I am mounting mine in the outside kitchen which I never used anyway. Also put the charger and the inverter in there. Pictures to come. I have to reroute almost all the cables and since I bought a new charger/converter for the lithium I will use the old charger to hook up to and charge the chassis battery so it will always be getting charged while sitting as long as it is connected to shore.

Here is the link for the battery : 200AH RV Boat Lithium Ion Bluetooth Battery | LiFeBlue Battery

Here is the link for the charger: https://www.progressivedyn.com/speci...power-centers/ I went with the 60 amp charger for now, these chargers can be connected in parallel to boost up the charger rate.

Advantage of the LIPO4 batteries you have witnessed if you own any power tools using lithium, they are full power till almost dead. Voltage drop is negligent, my 8D's brand new under a 13 amp load would drop to 11.5v which often tripped the inverter due to low voltage. Soon to see how these perform.

Cabinet in Bathroom

I also am finishing up building a medicine cabinet for the bath, I just pulled the mirror off the wall and had lots of skids laying around so I planed them down and built a cabinet 18 x 25 x 3.5 with 3 shelves and using the mirror as the door. Pictures on that one also coming.

Another advantage: The phosphate batteries aren't as susceptible to catch on fire as other Li-Ion batteries are.

Exactly, they have a battery management system built into the battery that disconnects if heat rises to far. Also they have a bluetooth app to monitor status of battery.

Here are a couple pics from the Medicine cabinet I built for the bathroom using the mirror as the door. I used the wood from a skid and planed down. Cheap project!

Tool drawer

On the ACE coaches or at least the 29.3, there is a drawer built into the steps. I have always used it for tools but the drawer is always a mess and I have to root through to find what I wanted . I just shadow cut out using some think plastic that my inverter came packed with. I made a second level with a handle on each side to lift out, Underneath the shelf I glued a 3/4" standoff in each corner to keep the shelf level. I put my most used tools on top. Also there is considerable space UNDER that drawer if you pull it out and off the slides, I store tools I seldom use, ball peen hammer, pex crimper, hacksaw etc.
