honda civic 2013

we are about to do something we have never done, and that is pull our car behind our motorhome on a tow dolly, I checked the manuel on our civic and it do not recommend it to be pulled behind a motorhome, just wondering if anyone has pulled a civic behind there motorhome?

Not sure why you can’t if you’re using a tow dolly. I have a 2013 Ford Focus that I flat tow. I went online and found the owners manual to make sure it could be flat towed.

Well if your car's manual is telling you it can't be towed, why are you going to do it anyway? You can of course tow it if you like but you will be responsible if it breaks down later on or seizes up.

I just looked at the 2013 Dinghy Towing guide and the Civic is not included. Not sure why...but I wouldn’t do it.

Check the Remco web page. Ignore the Remco part # on the entry table and just enter your toad (vehicle) information and it usually comes back with "already towable as is" or must use tow dolley etc. My 2014 Honda CRV as an example, is flat towable with some preamble precautions that must be taken. A 2013 Honda Civic with or without manual transmission needs a tow dolley according to Remco but the car manual should be the most accurate source. Hope my link works:

Store : Remco

The manual does say the 2013 Civic is not designed to be towed behind a motorhome. But if it was me, towing a 6 year old front wheel drive car on a dolly would be a no-brainer. Put it on the dolly, lift the negative battery cable (don't want to freak out any unknown sensors on the rear wheels) and go for it.

I called my local Honda dealer and they told me I can tow my civic on a tow dolly, so that what I am going to do, thanks everyone's for your advice. reason being I can tow it on a dolly is because it is a front wheel drive and it has not drive shaft in the rear.

Which makes sense, then why the caveat in the owner's manual?

Did you ask said dealer for the procedure in writing? Because normally I would put no weight on what a dealer says in regards to towing a vehicle either 4 down or on a dolly unless it is in writing; thus the use of the Owners Manual as the #1 source.

We have, in the past, towed 4 down a 2001 and a 2007 Civic with a MANUAL transmission. Only thing we had to do was in the 2007 we had to disconnect the battery to prevent the unlocked key position from killing the battery. And yes, the Honda Manual said not to tow. Why would we be able to source the necessary base plate if this were not an engineered solution.

I guess if the manual says not to tow 4 down, it depends how much the owner is willing to gamble that the manufacturer is wrong (even if base plates are available from a 3rd party). My 2014 CRV is 4 down towable with a preamble required, but in 2015 + Honda changed the transmissions to be competitive.....no longer 4 down towable I understand.

My Remco link says the 2007 civic with manual is 4 down towable but the 2013 civic with any transmission is not......but I would believe the manual first, and then if other sources indicated otherwise, I would go back to the manufacturer to resolve with approval in writing. Printing errors can and do occur in many places. The cost of repairs usually lands in the owners' lap.

Just rechecked the Remco listing for your 2007 civic.....last line item actually says that both Honda and Remco say it is not towable.....so they basically imply, with precautions, that it is and then reverse themselves at the end. So maybe you proved them both wrong and no repair bills. Bonus.

One thing to remember. after hooking up the dolly STOP AND CHECK YOUR STRAPS within a 1/4 to 1 mile and especially before you get on the E-way. This is a must do no matter how well you think you have it secured.

Curious as to why it cannot be flat towed. Perhaps a different transmission. Is it CVT? I flat tow my CR-V which is automatic transmission and front wheel drive, but not cvt. Also, it's old. 2004.
