Yeah but if you can fit two 6 volt in the same spot and have more reserve dont you think its worth it? Measure the current battery and this area first then get online to see what fits.

Plus I plan on adding solar down the road so I wanted the bigged bank I could fit in this spot. Mine are under my steps so I bet your setup is simular.

I thought of one are that might maybe make too much capacity less than ideal. Really just a theory at this point...I haven't dug in to totally think this through

After i upgraded mine to slightly larger... guess it was group 24 to 27 I think...

well it takes a bit longer to charge the bigger battery so if your application results in short recharge times for top off, then your bigger batteries will be at a constantly lower state of charge.
and for battery health we want to maintain full charge as much as possible.

So in this regard, this is perhaps another case where "right size" for your need is better than just more

I guess that I'll have to take another look at the 6-volt offerings... I know that the vertical clearance is REALLY tight...
Here's a peek at what's lurking under there:

the question of 'how long should my batteries last' is a question that can truthfully never be answered with any certainty, there are just too many variables, even between you and your neighbor who may have the same coach and seem to be in the 'same' camping situation.

We ALL use electricity differently... and every 'camping' situation is different. Weather is part of the equation, the age and charge state and number of your batteries, the amount of usage you have at any given time, etc. Some of us will have many items run thru the Inverter, as well as the normal 12v items like fans and lights that operate directly from the batteries, while others will only have 12v items and no Inverter.

While you are charging your batteries, whether from shore power, the generator, or solar power(if you have any), the battery levels will reflect more of a 13.5 range. When you are no longer 'charging' the batteries, the levels will probably be more of a 12.8 to 12.5 range at full charge...slowly dropping as usage occurs.
At around 11.5 to 12.0 you should then be recharging the battery bank. At 10.5 the levels are really, really low, and you may find that you then can't bring in your slides, or crank the generator.

How long the battery will last is an estimated guess based on what appliances you use and how they use power.

Left turn: In the world of EV's the range indicator is often referred to as the "Guess-O-Meter". Its the car's best guess at your range remaining with your current state of charge. On some EVs it can vary wildly as your driving changes (drive slowly down a residential street and you range increases, hop on the freeway with the heater blasting and you get a drastic reduction in range). Some cars (like my Bolt) give you 3 values: a best guess, average guess, and worst guess.

Its not just camper's asking that question....

Jamie,
So what you're saying; is that Range Meters are the automotive equivalent of a TV Meteorologist

Bob, Your setup looks just like mine. Take a look on line and see what fits and make your decision. AGM will charge faster and hold the charge longer than lead acid (plus No water to be added!). So I think they are the way to go.

I just noticed they my 6 volts above are "Group 27". So they should fit in the place of most of the 12 volts we have in our RV's (IMO).

One more question, whether I have the battery disconnect on or off, plugged into shore power or not, there is always a small green light illuminating from my inverter. I never really noticed this before, it this normal?

Yup! The inverter is just letting you know that it's happily converting 12 volt DC power; into 120 volts AC...

Bob, the light will stay on even though the disconnect is off?

It's one of those "parasitic losses"; that we talk about a lot...

If you unplug from shore power and have a manual battery disconnect on your house batteries the green light will go out after the input capacitors drain down. If you don't have a manual disconnect but are relying on your USE/STORE disconnect the light will stay on until your batteries are dead. The inverter is not disconnected by the USE/STORE disconnect.

chances are your Inverter will have no impact from a 12v disconnect switch... as it's basic design is to provide power, not to 'use' it.

If the green light is on, it's showing you that it is powered up... meaning that it is either Inverting, if you are off grid power, or it is 'ready' to Invert, while you are on Shore or Gen power, if you were to 'lose' those 120v power supplies. Generally, the inverter will have an automatic transfer switch that allows it to stay 'silent' when it's not needed, passing thru 120v power from the Shore or Gen to your inverted outlets, or automatically start Inverting when you unplug or turn off the Gen.

If you're staying with 12 voilt batteries: Instates always get lots of good comments...
There are lots of folks who switch to 6-volt setups: They'll have to chime in!
(I'm too new in the game; to comment on them...)
