Axis 24.1 tv replacement and how to brake safely on steep grades

Hello I have 2 questions:
1: Has anyone replace the seiki tv's with ones that can read a cable signal? If yes how difficult was the take down of the seiki and installation of the new tv? Any tv's that you recommend?

2: I have been told that I should downshift when going down a steep hill. I have have 4, 2 and 1 on my gearshift. Can someone give me advice on which to use and when. Thank you

1: We haven't replaced the TVs but it should be fairly simple as the mounts are all standard. Just have to find a TV that fits

2: Put it in tow-haul mode (press the button in on the end of the shifter). When in tow haul mode you just tap the brake pedal going down a hill and the transmission will downshift (then take your foot off the brake). If you feel you are still going too fast just tap the brake again and it will downshift again. Once on level ground pressing the gas pedal will return the transmission to normal operation (but still in tow-haul--tap the button again to turn it off). If the hill is still too steep for that then you'll have to occasionally use the brakes.

For tv installation see the thread disappointed in my Axis.

Love traveling in the Rockies

Love this forum! Last 3 days in the mountains, my Axis 2016 F450 has worked flawlessly. No one was held up by me going up hill. 1-2 mile 16% grade.
Issue was down hill back on same road. Followed your instructions and other than being shocked at the RPM at one point could not feel any fade.
There is a 2 mile construction tear up on the road between port Alberni and Tofino. Coming back up the axis was a champ no one was held up going up. At the first opportunity I pulled over to let the cars go by.
Everyone waved or honked I almost had to stop to get most of them to pass.

A huge shout out to JamieGeek and others for sharing their expertise!!

This is an old thread, but brings up two good issues. Tow haul is a great feature. We recently went up and down a lot of mountain roads, and almost never touched the brakes on the way down.

Those TVs come off by pulling a strap that is tucked inside. That releases a latch. I replaced one TV and left the other, after having some campgrounds that had digital cable. It's been 2 years and we've been in countless campgrounds with cable, and the crappy Sucky TV has worked fine in every one!
