THOR #4032
My Ace 29.3 Thor came to the rescue!

You know, I kind of get tired of hearing people bad mouth Thor. They have good to me. We bought our 2016 Ace 29.3 in April or so, 2016. There have been some minor issues, all covered by Thor.

A month or so ago I was examining our Ace top to bottom for preventive maintenance and did something I have never done before. I got under the full length slide and looked at the bottom. To my horror, one of the six metal plates that supports the slide (I think it rides on the rollers) was severely damaged. It was bent, had screws missing, and had a gouge where it had scraped on something.

I had a mobile guy look at it and he said I would likely have to go to the factory to get it fixed and he thought they would have to pull the slide out to fix it. He was able to see the roller was not damaged.

I called Thor and they said Bretz RV and Marine in Missoula MT could pull the slide if that was needed, so I called and talked to the service manager, Casey Garard, and he said to bring it down and he would look at it. So a couple weeks later we made the 130 mile trip and Casey examined it and said, yes, they could fix it even if they had to pull the slide. I had recalled when we took our very first trip, we slept in Wells NV and when we got up found a large bolt or screw had worked up through the floor about 1/4 inch! We were glad we didn't find it with our bare feet. I took pictures, sent them to our dealer, screwed it down and continued on our trip. When we returned to MT the Bretz RV in Billings fixed the problem and had to replace part of the vinyl floor as well.

The point of this is it appeared that this large screw or bolt had worked up and damaged the metal plate under the slide, but no one noticed it until I discovered it about 2 1/2 years later.

I mentioned this to the service manger, who was able to confirm the incident had been repaired way back when.

He ordered the new plate, and a week or two called and said it was in and when did I want to come in. I made the appointment for the next Tuesday. Tuesday morning they took the coach into the shop. It took almost all day, but they fixed it.

So what did it cost? Zero! Thor covered it 100%. So there you go, Thor has always taken care of me. When I called about a wind whistle issue a few months ago they sent me a new grill which fixed the issue. Cost! Zero.

I don't know how other manufacturers handle their customers, but Thor has always, always been good to us. Their phone support has been very good.

I am a retired accountant and have never been employed or had any connection to Thor or any of it's companies. I have not been paid to tell my story, nor have they asked.

Folks, as far as I am concerned, Thor rocks! If you call them, be kind, be reasonable, and who know how it will work for you. Be unreasonable, rude etc. and your results will likely be very different from mine.

Also, Bretz RV and Marine in Missoula Montana rocks! I parked in their lot Monday night (with water and electric hookups) and in talking to others who were also getting service the next morning found something really cool! They did not buy their rig there, in fact there were traveling and from California driving a big Tiffin Bus. But Bretz was taking care of them anyway. So many times, I hear about dealers that turn travelers away because they didn't buy their rig from them. I talked to another man who had a big 5th wheel. Guess what? We was another traveler who had not purchased from Bretz RV. But they were taking care of him. On top of that, Bretz RV gave me a loaner car so I could go get something to eat Monday evening and told me to keep it until my coach was fixed! Again my thanks go out to Bretz RV in Missoula for the wonderful treatment I received. When I get another coach, I will be going there.

Great to hear your story Bob! And your experience with Thor service is no different than mine, always top notch. I too get very tired of the continual bashing.

I am amazed that only two readers said anything.... with so many Thor bashers out there. Oh well, I guess good news isn't news these days.

Folks always like to complain; but few take the time to report on great services and products.
So thanks for taking the time to post a "Good News" story!

There is no drama in good news (= bad ratings LOL).

It's great to see an "attaboy" story about Thor like this; but as they used to say in the Navy: It only takes 1 "oh crap" to cancel out a dozen 'attaboys". And just in design and construction quality alone the "oh craps" far outweigh any "attaboys" that may accumulate.

My experience has certainly not been a bad one. I have had my share of annoying issues crop up during that first year, and our dealer and Thor in every case got it fixed for me at no cost. Also the way the MH was delivered, it was impossible to check air pressure in the rear dual tires. I had my tire guy re-do all the valves, extensions and the way they are accessed. I did mention that to Thor, who asked me to send them the invoice for that work. I did so, and a couple of weeks later, I received a check for the full amount of the work from Thor.

Honey attracts better than vinegar. You did the right thing and they did the right thing. I would not hesitate to buy another Thor class a coach, or one of their other brands such as Jayco, Entegra, Ace, Mirimar etc. For me, it is all about the size and floor plans available. So yes, I would buy another Thor product.
