Dish Satellite 211 receiver set up

Another Newbie Question

2012 Thor Tuscany 42FK.
I have a Winegard in motion, and I want to use one of my Dish TV receivers.

I have a Dish TV 211 receiver.

I plugged the receiver in ,and turned the satellite on. The receiver hookup is above and behind the passenger seat. The TV in the living room. Do I need to connect with HDMI cable? Do I need to have the TV on a certain channel?

When I try to get to Menu, using the remoteI get nothing just a black screen. Yes, I changed the batteries in the remote. TIA

first, is your wingard a DISH or compatible antenna?

- does the wingard have it's own 'box' that controls the antenna?
- where are you plugging your receiver?
- generally, in order to receive HD channel viewing on your TV, your TV must use an HDMI cable from the receiver

- the TV should then be on 'input' to the HDMI option
- when the receiver is 'ON', you should see the message on the tv from DISH to 'acquire' the satellites, or something similar - when you first power on your receiver, though, it may take a few minutes before the TV and Receiver recognize each other....give it a few.
- it should then ask you what 'STATE' you are in, then it starts looking for the satellites
- if it finds less than 3(110,119,129), it will ask you if you still want to continue - select YES, or CONTINUE/View.
- it will then aquire the signal(s), add the programming, and then SHOW the channels

if you are moving, the antenna will 'follow' the satellite, but heavy movement and/or trees/building/overpasses will certainly effect the signal...
if you are parked, then you should only have any issues if the satellite trajectory is impacted by trees or buildings...
the satellites are generally in the South/Southwestern area of the sky, and lower on the horizon if you are in northern states, and much higher in the sky in the south
