Drivers side mirror replacement

Hi everyone!

I stopped by my RV (located in storage) and found my drivers side mirror damaged. My neighbor was gone camping and I suspect that he/she is the guilty party. I'm curious about a few things.

1) How would handle this with your neighbor when you have no proof?

2) Can the glass be repaired or the entire mirror must be replaced.

Thanks!

Well, I would have to wait until your neighbor returned and then check their mirrors to see if there is damage too. They might not know for sure that they struck yours. If I confirmed the damage I would point out your damages and appeal to hopefully what common sense and integrity they have. Now, if they have none, I would be done with having anything to do with them and also find a new parking space.

Guess you could check your neighbors rig when they return, to see if there is any matching damage. As far as replacement, check with an auto glass shop, they may be able to help. The entire mirror assembly will be more expensive than you think.

Laco, your comment about mirrors being more expensive than you think is right on the button. The mirrors on my Tahoe quit folding in (the mirror part still adjusted as it should). My mechanic said they could not get parts for a repair and the solution was new mirrors at the outrageous price of $1700. He did find after market mirrors that cost "only" $600.

Most mirrors have the mirror glued to a hard back housing, it is possible to remove all the broke mirror & go to a glass/ body shop & have a new piece cut & glued back in without tearing everything apart, the 2 part glue works well this is how rear view mirrors are attached. I would check this out & if your neighbor-did it make him pay for the whole thing

How do you “make him” pay for the repair? I had a neighbor break out the back window of my Equinox. He didn’t deny that he did it but he isn’t going to pay for it either. Police were no help although the officer agreed that he probably did it as he didn’t deny it to the police either. Just had to suck up the $300 repair and move on.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! Correct, trying to get my neighbor to pay is going to be tough. At a minimum, I want to raise awareness about his rear end sway. Especially when pulling out of a tight parking spot.

We had to replace our drivers side mirror on our Class C 28Z due to a collision. It was $1500 because we had the camera on the mirror. Dealer made the repair and they had issues with how the factory wired it. Very carefull now.

When I damaged the passenger mirror on my Ace 30.1 I ordered a replacement from Pacific RV mirrors for $466.00.

Your mirror will come apart, might be tricky.
I've used a "small" flat blade screwdriver about 5" long to release the tabs that hold the glass.
There should be a part # on the broken part.
Google is your friend.

Check these links.
