We have AAA Plus coverage and Good Sam is less money. Anyone have any experience with Good Sam?
Thanks a lot,
Kevin

This is one of those products; where you hope to never find out about the quality of their service.
We have Good Sam: but have (fortunately) never had to call them.

I hope that you don't either!

Both of them are 3rd Party services and what you can expect has a lot to do with locale. Every road side assistance program uses 3rd party providers. There's a good chance the same service company has contracts with several the providers. Until you've actually used one of them, it's hard to judge them. What experience have you had with AAA? What seems better about Good Sambo other than the price? What areas will you travel and how remote will you be for how long? Big cites and between are pretty well covered. Weekends seem to make service harder to get. If you travel mostly on weekends or at night, it's even worse.

I just dropped AAA due to cost. I am going with FMCA Roadside Assist. I'm a little skeptical of anything owned by Camping World. Around here their service sucks so why should their roadside be different?

I've got FMCA and Good Sam...
I want to see the Tow Truck operators have a fist-fight in front of my RV!

As a new subscriber to GS you get a pretty good deal, until renewal time, then it's sticker shock

We just dropped GS, joined FMCA and went with their RS assistance plan for a lot less money than our GS renewal.

I dropped AAA more due to coverage than cost... and went with Good Sams... Even at highest levels, the limits on towing with AAA (at least at the time in 2014) didn’t meet my needs.
Haven’t looked at FMCA yet, but will.
Good Sams did push me into more expensive plan after first year.
Haven’t had to use either for RV (knocking on wood...)

I have GSRA and have had it for many years. I have used them 3 times to change tires and once because stupid me ran out of diesel. I have nothing bad to say about them or the service.

Do you remember what AAA plan you had? The AAA plan I have will tow up to 100 miles for each covered person, so in my case 200 miles. I have used them several times over the years and always been good experience. Never had to use them with my RV. I was just trying to save a few dollars but looks like GS will up the price in the second year. What concerned me with GS towing is they will only tow to the nearest service center any farther you have to pay the extra. What if the nearest center is a month out but one 50 miles farther can get you right in, then you have to pay the extra towing.

Thanks for all the replies

Sandrooney, you are right about the towing distance. I have AAA Premier RV and will be dropping the service in a couple days. We had 2 issues with AAA. One of my daughters got stuck on a hill in a snow storm in Christiansburg VA. AAA said that even though she was stuck the car was still driveable and they refused to tow her. The second issue was when my other daughter hydroplaned off the road in a heavy rain storm and AAA's driver couldn't find the car which was in the median by an on-ramp. The VA State Police got impatient and called their contract tow company after waiting about an hour.

I decided that since my new Jeep Grand Cherokee came with Road Side Assistance I don't need coverage for cars I only need it for the motor home. FMCA covers the motor home and my car at one cost. No additional cost (which were considerable) for my DW.

Read too many complaints about Good Sam and I've been an FMCA member for years so we went with them.

When I did my analysis a couple of weeks ago the Coach Net cost was over three times as much as FMCA.

So how much is FMCA per year? My Coach Net is like $89.

We got a package with Coachnet; when we bought our new RV... I guess that means I've got three arrows in the quiver!
Thanks for reminding me!

Is that a renewal price? Cuz their website price is much higher:

FMCA membership is $60 a year, then add their RS assistance for $69 a year.

It was AAA Premier RV... just for me. So I had only 100 miles.
GS would cover to next suitable service, and a 2nd assist vehicle if needed for extraction.

Also had Coachnet at one point... came with last RV for a year... the renewal price was ridiculous.

I have Good Sams Roadside Assist and have to call them once and was extremely happy with the service. The most surprising thing was they didn't raise the cost of my renewal after I filed a claim

Read the fine print. Motorized campers (RVs) are not covered by the basic Good Sam Roadside Assistance. But they’ll certainly sell it to you. Found out our dealer didn’t know it didn’t cover RVs. They sell it with every camper and didn’t even think to check RVs. They do sell a more expensive one that covers RVs but most insurance policies cover roadside assistance for small money. Good Sam is ~ $129/ yr. it’s included in my Progressive Ins for $16.

I have Good Sam's Roadside Assistance. They say it covers the motor home, trailer, our vehicles, our motorcycles, and our motorcycle trailers. I've only used the assistance three times, twice for the motor home and once for the van. What I didn't realize is that the Good Sam's Roadside Assistance will tow to the closest shop that would work on the vehicle. If I want to go to another shop, I would have to pay extra per mile fee. I had AAA (premium) and was told that they cover motorcycles. That is not true in every state, so I dropped them.
