Smile Our first family trip....just got home

We just went on our first family RV trip in our new 2017 Thor Hurricane 34J this past weekend and WHAT A BLAST!!! We went to the Grand Canyon for 4 days and our coach performed better than I could have asked for. Everything worked perfectly...got about 8 MPG on the trip, not bad considering mostly 2 lane roads with lots of slowing behind trucks. The only thing we had an issue with was could not get our oven to light....stove worked great...but, is there a trick to the oven igniting? Also, when I auto leveled the coach the wheels were about 4" off the ground...ALL OF THEM! So, I didn't think that was safe so I brought it down and parked the front tires on some 2" x 8" boards which leveled it pretty good...still a little lean toward the front of the coach, but overall, not bad...we lived with it....so....I am curious to know if it is ok to have your tires off the ground when auto leveled? It just seemed to me like that was an awful lot of weight 22K pounds on those four little rods....so is that ok or not? Other than those two minor issues, the trip was fantastic!

Oh, and how do you put the leveler system in manual mode...had I been able to do that I could have just lowered the front jacks to get the coach level.

For the auto-levelers, you need to reset the zero point for them (what they see as level and the default initial travel distance). Generally you do this by parking somewhere that's already level, put it into zero mode, put the jacks down manually to where they're touching the ground but not lifting it much (acting as stabilizers), if needed level the RV by adjusting the jacks manually (using a bubble level, or a level app on your smartphone, or whatever other method strikes your fancy in order to determine whether or not it's level), and then record that as the level point. That's a very general description. The details - how to enter that mode, how to operate the jacks manually, what buttons to press when you're done - should be in the instruction manual for your jacks. It varies by jack manufacturer.

Congrats. You have to light the oven manually. By this I mean push in the knob and hold it while someone else takes a lighter to the burner in the oven. Give it a second or two before you twist the knob after you see the flame.

I have a 2016 34j. To manual level press the down arrow till you get to manual level. I recently learned you can press the retract button and retract the Jack’s. I found it best to play with it in a flat parking lot. I also need to re calibrate my jacks. Good luck, it’s an amazing rig.
