Harvest Host...Anybody Try This??

In my searches for the greatest adventures and places to go see, I stumbled across the Harvest Host website. Annual Membership is $49 and you can stay at some really cool wineries, farms, museums and lots of really off the beaten path cool places...FREE! Mostly for one night and the hopes of these businesses are that you will patronize them, spend some money and enjoy their lifestyles. I watched a number of videos of full-timers and extended travelers that joined and the places they've visited are very impressive! In most cases you have to have self contained as the parking locations are no hook-ups...which to me is a plus! Feedback, anyone?

Love Harvest Hosts! We are actually parked at one right now in the Fargo, North Dakota area. We've stayed at wineries, farms, museums, distilleries, farm markets, orchards, etc. all with good experiences. Highly recommend them. If you choose to sign up use Off Our Rocker RV as a referral and we both receive an extra month to our memberships. Happy travels!

I have, not bad, altho... If it is during their harvest and they find that I still hold a CDL, I get put to work..at least for the season,, makes for a nice contribution to our finances..(and they "might" throw in a full tank of diesel for the RV...(200 gal tank)

I still have a full-endorsement CDL as well. Always wanted to take one of those un-inspected, no-brake, bald tire, over-loaded trucks full of watermelons down the highway at 80 MPH!

I think I'm gonna join though! Told the wife about it last night...showed her a couple videos of people touring the wineries...her eyes lit up!! One of them isn't far from us...150 miles...now she wants to do a road trip next weekend! Works for me.

I've got to say that your is, I think, the first post I've ever read that had good things to say....
I've seem this question come up several times now, on another forum and maybe here too, not sure... Well at least I think it was harvest host...maybe it was another similar thing.

Anyway, I really want to love the idea of that sort of service. I often think about how there are so many places with huge parking lots that would be perfect overnight spots...office buildings, businesses of all sorts, golf courses, and on and on.... But I can see how a few bad egg RV'ers either overstaying their welcome, leaving trash, etc... could really mess it up for others. I mean I'd love to think that if I were a business owner that had a place that say, was closed weekends, that I could list it for use..maybe with a one or two night limit, out by a certain time in teh morning, or whatever...but I can totally imagine the potential dangers and headaches too. Insurance problems, trash, damage, or maybe the worst might be squatters that won't leave.

Anyway, it seems like mostly what I read it sounds like it could be a scam of some sort....with folks reporting that they approach some of the listed places only to find out that they've either never heard of it or they have repeatedly asked to be removed from the directory. AM I thinking of something else, and not harvest host?

Do you promise that harvest host isn't your business or employer?

Also, is it mostly regional, like say lots of places out west but not so many in other areas?

Haven't heard of anything negative on Harvest Host and have been seriously researching for 2 day. You must be thinking something else. There's great reviews from users on YouTube. I'm sure there will be some free-loading, "I Want Everything For Free" scumbag that will take the names from the videos and try to circumvent the program by just showing up and trying to befriend the owners. Let me know or post here what you find negative about this program. The program calls for 24 hour arrival notice, so those "showing up" are maybe run away by owners and subsequently posting bad reviews. There is a very small group of RVers (that's a stretch) that feel the world owes them a free place to stay wherever they wish to roam. That's what Slab City is for.

Harvest Host is everywhere...look at the map on their website.

I have looked at Harvest Hosts and haven't found anything negative said about them. The only downside people have mentioned is that by the time they've purchased wine, gifts, food, dinner or whatever, each stay ends up costing them a lot more than it would have at a premium campground.

We just signed up. We want places to stay where there are things to do. Not just in campgrounds. We' like to stay at a winery or a museum, etc. How about a car museum in FL. Sounds cool to me!

Even if we get just 1 night at one place its worth the $49/year.

Exactly...plus you gotta eat and drink anyway! I'm gonna sign up. There's a very nice winery 150 miles from home base and a farm with animals about 100 the other way. We'll do a road trip and check them out. I think it will be a wash vs. campgrounds. Use it once or twice a week to fill in your trips and see some really cool places.

We have plans to head north into GA, north of Atlanta, to an apple orchard and then NC to a farm. Then into the mountains for cooler temps.

Time to get out of the FL heat.

Lisa...there's a really cool farm with exotic animals not far from you near Cartersville. Would be a great overnight break-in trip. If you forgot the salt and pepper, you're not to far to go back and get them. Go to YouTube and search "Harvest Host". Best alternative to conventional campgrounds I've seen...and, I cannot find a single negative review!

Don, I have been looking at reviews also- it sounds great- spend the night at a vineyard- that’s my kind of stop for sure! I’m glad your research is showing the same positive opinions that I am seeing as well.

See you in the vineyards. What a great "mini-rally" we could do within our regions in just a weekend and just a few miles from home.

csseeker...Since you joined, you have the maps and details. I saw a YT video of a really cool winery around Adel, GA not too far west off I-75. That will be our first mini-road trip. Let's not just go buy wine around the corner and bring it home..let's load out the MH...drive 150 miles, stay overnight and get the same wine. Why not?? Isn't THAT what THIS is all about??
