THOR #2361
2016 Vegas 24.1

So we took delivery of our 2016 Vegas 24.1 yesterday. We had several items to be repaired from our initial look last week and then several more on the PDI yesterday. All minor stuff that's either already fixed or waiting on Thor warranty claim delivery of parts. There was no quibbling over any of the claims at all.

On our initial look at the bus we found a tire that had picked up a screw and needed replacement, a section of wallpaper in the bedroom was defective with some odd markings on it, the kitchen shade didn't fully retract, left rear quarter trim piece not properly attached and a missing right rear hub cap (stolen from the dealership they say). During delivery I found the air mattress had a tear and wouldn't hold air, a sofa cushion was torn on the back where the velcro is stronger than the cushion backing material, an outside compartment latch wasn't properly installed, and a couple of tire valve extensions were not properly installed.

It's not our first RV buying experience so I wasn't surprised to find items needing attention but I'm still disappointed by the lack of quality control in the RV industry. When you buy a new RV expect to find problems and get them fixed. It's how it's done.

That being said, we're really excited about our new Fun Bus (it's what our boys call it). Our boys are 10 and 12 and play travel baseball and we plan to use our Vegas on many weekends at the ballpark as well as camping trips. If you've done any travel sports you know that even when you're playing at the home field you might have a game in the morning and then a two or three hour break before your next game. Not enough time to get home but too long out in the sun. Enter the Vegas! Grill some burgers and dogs, maybe get out the blender, life is good! So between tailgating between games, camping at away games and regular vacations, we're hoping to get good use out of it. We think it's a great design and think it'll suit us well.

Nice. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we have enjoyed our Vegas and Axis over the past two and a half years. I would have loved to have had it when our two kids were both on traveling soccer teams. It would have been great!
Noticed that you have the keys to the bunk bed installed in the operating position. You might want to store those both separately some place. Especially with two boys. I know mine would have had the bunk up and down many times, if I had left my key in. It is too easy to break or for the keys to fall out and get lost. Nice looking unit.

Razor,

Looks like you are ready to make the RV live up to its name "Fun Bus".

Congratulations! Thor has marketed this unit from the start for exactly the use you are describing. Your Fun Bus will be just that!
The problems you described are shameful and would have been addressed by a good dealer before you ever saw it. Were they thinking you would accept it that way?
The parents of your kid's friends are going to be soooo jealous!

I agree. I haven't had time to do anything with the bus yet. Pretty much just put it in the driveway and that's it. If only I could figure out a way to get rid of my job but still get my paycheck!

It's called retirement. I highly recommend it!

Yeah some of us are counting down to that point, but at a decade to go I can barely see the light at the end of the tunnel. LOL

There are a few good things about being "old". I just wish I could slow things down a little.

I retired from the Air Force in 1993 and had a second career for 12 more years. You're right, the second job allows for better toys as well as college for the kids.

Was on active duty AF from Mar 1965 to Jul 2005. Spent 13 years enlisted, made MSgt, and shortly after pinning on I was selected for Officers Training School (OTS). Graduated OTS and was commissioned 2LT Nov 1977. Retired 2005 as a Col was the AF's Chief of Weapons and Munitions. When I retired I was #3 on the AF's "Lifer List" for longest continuous active duty.

After I retired I worked from 2005 to 2012 as a defense analyst for a major management consultant in the DC area. Finally decided to retire full-time in 2012.

That's a great career in the USAF, Ed. Congrats! More importantly though is that you did in fact retire and now the rest of us get to take advantage of the wonderful Axis/Vegas manual you put together!
