Our Hurricane is also vented back into the living area. Upsets me. I have been battling lung cancer and try to stay away from smoke or even pollution from propane/natural gas. I had a power vent installed in the roof vent and use it when we are cooking.

To the OP, I understood exactly what you were talking about, the microwave and the vent fan are all one unit.

One more time, Thor R&D/Management proves to be incompetent. Probably more management than anything else.

I usually use lighter fluid!

I have owned campers/rvs for over 45 years and have never experienced this before! Gas fumes and smoke are dangerous without proper ventilation in such a confined area. The roof vent is unreachable without a stool and does not draw properly where needed. It will pull out you a/c air easily since the a/c blows toward it. Really bad on 100° days. Anybody put, or have put, a good sidewall vent in. Any other suggestions?
I know what you are talking about, I agree that it should vent to the outside. I had purchased a vent for the outside from C.W., haven't installed it yet. It would entail taking down the microwave and turning the blower inside to exhaust to the exterior. I'm just hoping there's no wall studs where I'm going to cut the wall. Going to be a spring project.

I have installed many microwaves above ranges in homes we have owned over the years. Most had the option of inside exhaust through a charcoal filter or outside exhaust which required an exhaust kit to convert the microwave.

I believe this is it. It's the same as what Ed and Bev have on their coach:

As mountainsam mentioned, many microwaves, depending on the model, have the option to install a charcoal filter. Installing a filter is usually a very simple task and does make a difference if changed on a regular basis.

We have a 2016 Thor Siesta 24ST and our stove vent is vented to the outside.

Never a problem with our ACE. Stove fan vents outside.

Before I cut a hole in the side of an RV for a stove vent, I would replace my manual roof vent with an automatic fantastic fan. In our current RV one of our fantastic fans is 3 or 4 feel away from the galley area. When cooking simply turn it on and all the fumes go up and out. You are not really wasting air conditioning because your cooking heat is rising and going out through the fan. Just don't forget to turn it off when done if air is running.

Our Axis is vented but I went a different route: Picked up a Portable Induction cooktop and cook outside on a table under the awning. We rarely use the propane stove anymore.

Use that in combination with the BBQ and we never use the kitchen for cooking .

I've pondered replacing the propane stove with an induction cooktop. We're already wired for it LOL (Our unit doesn't have the outside TV but I found the plug for the outside TV laying on the floor beneath the drawers...perfect induction cooktop feed ).

The microwave in our Chateau is the same exact one as in our house. In the Chateau is is not vented. When we built our house a few years ago, we had to fight the builder to vent the fan on it. He said they never do that. Finally we compromised and he had the heating guy put in the main vent line for it but we had to install the microwave ourselves and hook it up.

Our 31W has two propane and 1 induction burner on the cooktop. An interesting combo.

I have been interested in the induction cooking method. We have a tea kettle that is inductionand I love it, fast and efficient. When cooking is there ever a time you would prefer gas, other than BBQ of course? I am interested because not having the heat source, the RV, especially a smaller one like ours should stay cooler. The only disadvantage I can see is having to run the generator if not hooked up to shore power.

That's the big one. It also seems slower than a gas burner to get a pot of water boiling for example. Flip side is setting it to simmer is really easy.

Not really: an induction burner will boil water in a minute or so...a lot faster than our propane stove.

Not wanting to hijack the thread but we have an induction cooktop in our home, would not trade it for gas. It is faster, heating and cooling. But you wont see a big difference in RV temps as the heat is still generated. Except instead of transferring the heat to the pot. the pot becomes the burner.

If I had respiratory issues I would not hesitate, But I do like not having to run the genny when dry camping.
