This has been the norm for quite a while, especially smaller units like the Axis, Vegas, since the black tank seldom gets full before the grey they extended the grey tank capacity by sending bathroom sink to black tank, plus it is an easier plumb job. The whole time=money theory

On edit, lol, just realized that your post was old. When I clicked on the recent discussions it took me to the first page.

LOL yeah that was after I first got the coach and didn't realize about the plumbing. The Axis is our first motorhome. I've since learned that its quite common and not just the Thor units do this.

I am under impression E-450 uses 4.56 rear gear.

That’s my understanding as well; and that most newer E-350s also go with 4.56 in lieu of 4.10 like was more common years ago.

I think it’s likely driven by emissions regulations, which seems odd in that it’s lower gearing than Ford specs indicate for F53 chassis with 16,000- and 18,000-pound GVWR. These larger F53 show 4.30 with taller tires, so overall gearing is significantly taller.

My old small and light Class C had 4.10 and V10 still had plenty of power to climb hills in top gear. Regardless, taller gearing probably wouldn’t improve MPGs significantly with present V10 and Axis/Vegas size.

We drove our nex 2018 Axis over 700 miles, and are averaging 9.5 mpg, without a dingy. We now know that a dingy is a must.... we are going to get a dolly to tow our 2009 Prius.

2016 AXIS Gas Milage

Just completed a 1900 mile trip to Upper Michigan running about 62-65 mph with no dingy and no generator. We averaged 9.86 mpg. I was pleased. Nick from Soddy Daisy, TN., 25 miles north of Chattanooga, TN.

I probably posted this before, but what the heck. The first year plus, my wife and I recorded every full-up and mileage. And I mean every. The average MPG was 10 without toad (sometimes more sometimes less) and 8.5 to 9.1 with towing our jeep. It depended on which route out of Los Angeles area we traveled. Ahhh mountain passes We travel at 60 with toad and 65 without. And I never go over 4K rpm climbing mountain passes. She passes all the semi's that have loads.
