Need Hinged RV Queen mattress

Just purchased our new Quantum KM24 and the mattress is hard as a rock. Need to find a Queen Short RV memory foam mattress that is hinged (folds in the middle) as otherwise the slider won't close. I can't seem to find one to buy???
Thanks

If you can't find one anywhere, an upholstery shop should be able to put a hinge in one for you. Another option would be to do it yourself. Our new mattress came with a removable cover and I opened it up and trimmed the width down a few inches. Memory foam cuts fairly easily with a bread knife.

We had a custom made mattress with a hinge made by https://www.mattressinsider.com/ They worked with us to build to our dimensions and hinge requirements.
Very satisfied with it.

That is great to know.... thanks for sharing! Was it very expensive compared to a typical mattress?

We have a 2020 Magnitude with the Tilt-a-View bed. We like that feature for reading or watching TV in bed but when the full wall slide is closed, the bed has to be tilted to close. We figure it is going to wear out the mattress prematurely so we could measure where the bed tilts and then have them install a hinge there (about 1/3 of the way from the end of a king mattress).

Expensive as compared to what?
We chose a multi density foam build up and radiused corners in addition to the hinge.
So yes, it’s more expensive than a coil spring mattress traditionally found in an RV.
But, if you are comparing it to a quality foam mattress that you would find at a reputable mattress store, it’s cost is only slightly higher. IMHO

We use a foam topper with a pillow top cover over it and the OEM mattress. Much less expense, and it still folds, just not flat. A bungee cord keeps it folded.

The main reason we went with custom mattress ( other than comfort) was the OEM mattress was too short.
Due to my height, I added a 6” bed extension, which also required a longer mattress. Because of the bedroom slide, the extension had to fold out of the way when the slide was retracted. This also required that the mattress either fold or have some means of getting out of the way of the slide retraction.
We found the best way for us was to order a custom mattress that was long enough, had a section at the foot that folded, incorporated radiused corners at the foot and was more comfortable.
Fortunately we found a company that was able to build a mattress that met our requirements.

We did the same thing; it still folds: but not quite as easily!
But if we replace the mattress: we'll be looking for a much better quality hinged mattress.

Great that you found a source for a custom folding mattress!

Besides the foam pad and mattress topper, I added about 6 inches of foam between the mattress and the wall at the head. The mattress doesn't sag where it hangs over, since it is just my feet in that area. That 6 inches is about the limit. This works for us and we won't be looking for a custom mattress.

Custom Mattress

I ordered mine through Tochta. They will custom make your mattress to your specifications. Paid about $700, but LOVE the mattress. Very comfortable!!

Short RV memory foam topper

I searched for a Short Queen on Amazon and found one with a 24" hinge.

https://www.amazon.com/Best-Price-Ma...79690559&psc=1

and found it works fine. I also got an extra one for the bed above the cab which is as hard as a rock

Same here... a queen sized memory foam fit ours perfectly. It folds up with the mattress with no problems. It rivals our bed at home for comfort!

The fun thing is the topper weighs probably twice what the mattress does. It's like maneuvering an occupied body bag out the door come storage time in fall - then again in spring set-up.

We didn't have the extra inches needed to be able to leave the topper in place while raising the bed. So we just fold back about a 1/3 of the topper and hold on to it as we raise-up the murphy bed. works great!
