New class c shopping

Can any one help me decide if I should lean toward a diesel class c or a gas one? I'll be primarily running through very steep mountain ranges etc while sometimes pulling a mini. Thanks.

If you have the spending $$$ for the diesel, that would be my pick. Your choices will be either the Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit or Ford E series chassis. That will also be one of your biggest decisions as far as towing capacities.

We had a 2012 Four Winds 31A gas. Loved it but had to pull the trigger on a diesel. We got a Chateau 35SB and it was well worth it. Love the F-550 chassis. Like Earl said, if you have the means, get the diesel.

Another option might be a gas class C with the 5Star tuner. I heard that the tuner greatly enhances the engine shifting for up/down hill driving, as well as, more horse power and better fuel economy. Search this site or other RV forum sites for a thread on the tuner and/or visit their website, http://5startuning.com/

Again I'm going to go back to basics. Determine what you are going to do with your coach and look for floorplans that work for your type of traveling and camping. All of the gas Thor Class C motorhome's are on E-450 chassis with the V-10. Your Mini is in the tow rating for all of the gas Class C's watching your loaded weight on the largest ones. None of the the E-450s have a diesel motor. For that you need to step up to the F series.
Find a floorplan and figure out how you will use it and go from there.

Good luck with your search.

For me it came down to money. I would've loved the F-series with the diesel, but for the money, the v-10 in the E-series offers a lot of bang for the buck. They will haul up the hills, especially with just a small toad. The diesel will get you better fuel mileage, but how long will it take to make up the 40-60k difference in price? I couldn't justify it...or afford it.

The V10 is quite capable but be aware the new Class C may not be built on an E-450 chassis any longer. Thor screwed us on ours but has since updated their website to show which ones are likely to be on a 350 vs 450 chassis and it does make a huge difference when it comes to GCVW.

Thanks for the info, I decided the diesel was way too much money so I'm pretty much ready to lay my money down on a 2018 Coachmen Concord 300TS

Time will tell, we have a Chateau 35SD on order, it has the Ford F550 diesel 6.7. Been waiting about 2 months hope we hear some status soon. Anyone else still waiting?

Did they give you any idea as to when you'll be given the keys?

If you don't mind..what was the reason you special order it? Is not like there was not another somewhere? Are you hoping there are less defects this way?
Thanks,
Peter

Have you taken delivery yet or have a date? I would love a report on that engine. My vanes have diesel running through them. I'll keep watching.
