GAAAAAH! Our induction stovetop just broke!!!

So, we are three days in to a 3-week trip and a metal coffee mug fell out of the upper cabinet, turned 45 degrees in mid-air (!) and landed smack in the middle of the cooktop. She is shattered!

Have looked online at the manufacturer and they can be purchased at many different places (Home Depot, Amazon, Wayfair, etc.) for a reasonable price, around $120. Well, theoretically, anyways. They are ALL out of stock!

Anyone have any experience replacing one of these? I don't want to go to the dealer and have him tell me it's $300 PLUS their labor (which probably involves 30 minutes of actual labor).

Should be pretty easy to do. Do you have one of those units that have 1 burner propane and 1 or 2 burners induction? I don't think there is much holding it in, maybe a screw or two.

Seems to me someone posted on here something about buying a new unit. Ah here it is:

(Does yours look like that??)

All my experience with them comes from installing my own.

No, mine looks like this:

I'm sure the glass cooktop can be replaced, but I have to find one in stock!

No, this literally just happened tonight after dinner. I'm in Jacksonville FL and there just happens to be a branch of General RV down here (where we bought our rig in Michigan from) so if I can't figure it out, I'm going to head down there this week.

Yep. Not only not in stock, it says not sure if they will get more in the future.

UPDATE:

The microwave is help in by six screws on the front face trim. I popped those out, slid the microwave out (it simply sits on a shelf above the long kitchen drawer underneath it), unplugged it and moved it out of the way. After that, I reached up and pushed on the bottom of the True Induction burner and sure enough, it's simply held in its place by gravity; no screws to worry about.

I ordered one from the ONLY place that says they have it in stock for about $150, including shipping. I'll feel a lot better when I get a shipping confirmation that they actually DO have them in stock, because none of the big guys (Amazon, Home Depot, etc.) had any and weren't sure they were getting more in the future.

Broken Induction Cooktop

I almost had the same thing happen to me but was lucky that I caught it just in time, so I went to a restaurant supply house and bought a large piece of fiberglass cutting board , cut it to size and put rubber feet on the bottom, it not only protects the cooktop it also is a great place to cut food on and when drying dishes we use a drying mat on the top. It has only moved once during a sudden stop.

We were just talking about what we were going to do once we get the new one. We have a cheapo plastic cutting board on it right now, but your solution sounds wonderful to us!!! Thanks!

Happened to us!

Same thing happened to us and we bought one on Amazon. Delivered in two days, bought the butyural tape with it and we replaced it in less than one hour! We are not mechanically inclined in the least bit either. It actually was so easy it got my confidence to try other projects and save a lot of money.

p.s. they sell the tape I am telling you to get with the stovetop. I'm sure I spelled it wrong too.

Timmy,
Sorry to hear that gravity suddenly became your enemy!
At least you have a line on a replacement (I hope the shipping notification comes quickly!), and you also picked up some good advice on protecting the unit in the future!
Let's face it: we get our best lessons from the mistakes that we make along the way!
