Recommended sewer hoses (Windsport, 2015)

As promised in our "intro" post a bit ago - we will have LOTS of questions as we get to know our "new to us" 2015 Windsport. And here's our first - and an important one at that.

We thought it odd that the dealer did not include black/gray dump lines. Found it even stranger that they didn't try to sell us something before driving off.

Regardless - we need to outfit sewer lines before taking this rig on the road. Lots of options on Amazon - with prices are all over the board. So are the reviews; but none of those really indicate what rig they are being used on.

Anyone with a Windsport close to our model (2015 27K) have a recommendation for what works best? What to avoid? Any special adapters needed?

If we look at something like this - how badly are we screwing up right off the bat? https://www.amazon.com/Camco-RhinoFL...=rv+sewer+hose

Thanks so much!

The dealer would have sold you a super cheap hose. You are better off. I bought the following hose which 5ft shorter than the one you are looking at but $15 cheaper. It depends on how much hose you will need. They are good hoses and I have never had an issue. They come with covers for when they are in storage. This is the best I have had and I have been buying them for over 15 years.

You may want to pick up a sewer hose support of some kind also. I have been to a few CG that require them. A spanner wrench for the connections is also handy at times.

I was in a similar situation when I bought my camper from CW.

My CW had a lot of different sewer hose options, but based on the quality and items that were in it, I picked up the Valterra hose. After (3) months of solid use, I have been quite happy with the pick.

I have the 20 foot kit, and I end up using the full 20 feet about 50% of the time. I did try to go cheap and just got the 15' sewer hose support and should have picked up a 20' one instead. It's working okay for the time being.

You're on the right track with the Rhino/brand as we've had very good luck with them. This doesn't mean they'll be everyone's favorite. Specifically, I prefer the way the hoses (accordion) rings snap in place allowing you to size/place it handle it more easily. Be cautious as some hoses will wiggle around wildly under pressure, when dumping which can cause problems.
But generally it's nice to have sections that fit your specific need rather than wrestling a monster hose that you may only need once a season. YMMV.
We use a 10' section 90% of the time traveling. We carry 2ea. 10' & 1ea. 5' again, most will have there own preferences. The 5' works for our extended stay summer / winter sites.
Short of a macerating setup (another topic) most RVs will use that diameter hose.
Insure it has the four 4) bayonet ears pictured, and quality gaskets to promote good connections. The included storage caps are a plus for us.
As mentioned there is an inexpensive multi-tool that is helpful with CG sanitary sewer caps that are threaded and often gritty stubborn.
Often a HD spray bottle with dilute bleach is handy to keep around along with nitrile disposable gloves from Harbor Freight, for these duties.
FWIW, Many of us like these optional 3rd valves for flexibility / versatility but may be more than you require.

Best of luck.

as a newby, don't go out and buy a bunch of stuff. Just the basic hose from any store will work, then you'll learn what you like or dislike about it before you'll know exactly what you'd rather have.

many of us have several different types, adapters, etc in our arsenal because you never really know what situation make happen at the next 'hook up' ... some will force you to need more footage of hose to reach the outlet, others will require you to go 'uphill' to reach the outlet, etc... everyplace is somewhat different, but your basic hose and adapter will work in most scenarios. Don't sweat it.

I do run into this with the Valterra hose that I use. With the weight of the fluids it begins to expand and grow if there is more slack in the hose. Mainly when I use the full 20' of hose and only need about 12-13'.

Another thing I've been doing with my sewer hose is to create a trap in the hose. Otherwise the camps sewer gases might still work their way back up into your rig if you leave your grey tank open.

Some things don't matter what RV you have: Sewer hoses, water hoses, toilet paper, and tank chemicals are good examples. These are all things that are normally included in a "Starter Kit" from good RV dealers for both new and used RVs. It doesn't matter if it's cheap stuff, it's enough to get you started camping right away.

The last time I bought a new TT from a dealer, not only did I get a starter kit, I got a $50 certificate good for any purchase in their accessories store. And no, it was not Camping World.

But we did purchase our used ACE MH from Camping World and did get a starter kit.
