Microwave vent not vented outside

I have a 2017 Hurricane 29M and found out this past summer, it wasn’t vented to the outside. After talking to Repair Dealer & Thor, I find that this was normal for some of their Motorhomes and they refused to do anything. I have owned campers/rvs for over 45 years and have never experienced this before! Gas fumes and smoke are dangerous without proper ventilation in such a confined area. The roof vent is unreachable without a stool and does not draw properly where needed. It will pull out you a/c air easily since the a/c blows toward it. Really bad on 100° days. Anybody put, or have put, a good sidewall vent in. Any other suggestions?

Never seen a microwave vented outside, only stoves.

S&B microwaves aren't vented outside either.

In 3 RV's never had the Microwave vented, just the hood over the stove. As a matter of fact the microwave in the house is not vented to the outside

The microwave has a stove vent fan built in. I was talking about the stove vent fan.

never seen a microwave vented outside, and our propane stove isn't either... but you can use the microwave 'fan' to vent it above the microwave, and certainly turn on your roof fan for outside ventilation.... I'm not sure why you would question such a normal thing in most every motorhome with a microwave(?).... It's certainly not 'un safe' as there are no 'fumes' or 'gas' that you speak of, a microwave only heats food from the inside out.

I’m sorry I mentioned microwave as this mislead everyone of my question. I should have said the vent fan over the stove does not vent anywhere! It doesn’t vent out the side of the RV nor does it vent out front of the cabinets as it is blocked by a wooden board attached to the cabinets done at factory. If you do any cooking in the summer, heat and fumes build up inside the RV making it hot and definitely not healthy breathing gas fumes and oil smoke. The roof vent, which has a fan, is hard to open because it is too high without a stool. When the roof vent is turned on, it sucks a lot of ac out as it is 4 feet or so from the ac direction of air flow. It also does a poor job of sucking fumes and smoke out as it is 7 feet or so away from the stove. Most stove vent fans are 30 or so inches from the stove. Do most people accept this now as it was unacceptable years ago?

The under cabinet microwaves are also stove hoods for venting but a vent that blows back into the coach. I was also contimplating adding an outside vent because the smoke alarms goes off allot when cooking on the stove unless the fantastic fan is running which my wife cannot reach. Someone at Thor put allot a thought into this setup.

BTW, this was the first RV out of a dozen we've owned that did not have an outside venting stove hood.

My new RV doesn’t have an over stove fan of any sort just a metal barrier to block heat and grease buildup. I like the outside vent that my Freedom Elite had although it had the drawbacks of being another sidewall penetration, it was drafty and had potential insect issues. If we are going to cook an especially messy or smelly meal we often choose to do it outside.

If your vent fan is in your microwave it almost certainly can be adjusted for inside or outside venting and you’d just have to fabricate a duct and wall termination. Parts should be available from an RV supplier. Personally, I wouldn’t bother.

My 2015 Vegas has a vent hood attached to the bottom of the cabinet that houses the microwave above my stove. That hood vent is exhausted to the outside.

On the attached picture look at the window that would be above the sink. Just to the rear of that window is the stove hood vent to the outside

The vent fan, meant for the gas stove, part of the microwave is vented in a box with no way out. The stove, the microwave vent fan is supposed to vent out, is gas and has fumes. The use of the microwave does not have fumes and therefore needs no venting as you stated.

Although my RV has a microwave above the stove there is an external vent behind it. Unlike all my previous RVs where I had to manually unlock and lock the vent closed, this one is automatic.

That’s the way it should be. Thor is saving $20 not to have that vent anymore!!! It costs hundreds to vent now as the microwave has to be removed and a hole cut in the sidewall and everything reinstalled.
