2016 Vegas Repair Opinion

Good morning,
We purchased our Vegas from Gander RV back in May of this year. As-is, no warranty other than an extended fabric interior protection warranty and a mechanical protection. After our first trip in the rain we noticed bulging below the driver and passenger windows and on this forum I discovered this is a common leakage issue. The dealership has it and they have confirmed the damage and it was pre-existing (from before our purchase). The repair is very expensive and both panels in the cab need to be replaced, windows sealed, etc. Labor alone is $2200, materials not included. They have offered to pay for half of the labor and all of the materials.

I would be grateful if any of my fellow Thor owners think that this is an acceptable agreement based on an As-is sale and prior condition?

It's more than acceptable.
Most state laws say all options and equipment must work as originally intended upon the sale, but other than that you're on your own. Many documents you signed say you're on your own.
The dealer is doing half just to do it. No obligation.
But
You know this and your post shows you're not bitter, just double checking. Congratulations on being reasonable. So many rv owners aren't.

The good news is the material is inexpensive.
$110 an hour and 20 hours. 20 hours sounds reasonable.
Be prepared to pick out a finish other than what is now on the coach. You'll likely not get a match.
Besides what they offer, I'll suggest more is available if you look up
Vinyl Wrap
On amazon or eBay.
Or
Go to
Joanne's or somewhere and look at the sheets of crikut material.
Both will allow you nice and varied choices for the interior walls(if it comes to that).

There's an app called rv checklist.
Download it.
Ask the dealer while they're being gracious (and they are indeed being gracious. Let no one tell you differently) if they'll do other fixes at half price. You use the checklist, then PAY them to find other things wrong, then pay the half price if they let you.
It might be $10,000 or it might be no more than what you stated above.
Fix it now.

Thanks for your post.
The non-screaming, no fit throwing, gives a great impression.

Actually they can contact Thor and get the exact wallpaper that is on the walls to make it so it doesn't look like anything has been done at all.

Thor did a similar repair to our passenger side window out of warranty and was able to match everything. You really can't tell unless you know where to look.

Yeah that is a pretty good deal if they are paying that much.

I agree, not a bad deal. Most dealers try to wiggle out of any resonsiblity for anything that goes wrong.

Maybe you can ask them for $100 (+) of credit for shopping on line or in the store? Otherwise be glad they offered you 1/2 price.

That's GREAT of Thor to keep the vinyl in stock.
Glad to hear it for the op.

So op,
YOU might have to be the one to educate the dealer on how to get a match.

Good luck with the repairs.

What dealer is that! Sounds like they know they are in the customer service business and want your repeat business and good will. Take the offer and smile broadly when you get the RV back. And I am serious - I want to know which dealer this is.

Thank you for that excellent breakdown and the kind words. We really love this RV and the dealer has been very communicative with us. Your advice and pointers are very appreciated.

Ah! It’s good to know we went to the right place. Gander RV in St. Augustine by I-95. Vinnie is our repair lead and thanks for replying with that positive input.

Thank you very much. I’m glad I asked the Thor Group. As a first time owner of an RV is invaluable.

We’ll work with the repair guy. I also just re-installed floooring in the front can since the stock carpet needed to go. It’s not high quality so I expect the floors will need to be replaced but with the chairs out it should pretty easy at the same time.

How refreshing to hear about a positive experience with a Gander/CW dealership.

I wanted to wait until the op was in The shop so it didn't influence them,
But
Doesn't gander give half price labor commonly to good Sam members?

It sounds like a good deal and the dealership is willing to work with you on this issue.
