Upgrading from Thor ACE

I have a Thor ACE 30.1 which we use several months of the year to participate in the Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vaners program as well some occasional road trips with our grandkids. We love the living set up and all of the well engineered space, equipment, etc. but are now looking for a smoother, more comfortable ride when we are on the road. We might go slightly bigger, but are not interested in a 40'er. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What have you done to make your current ride better?

With our ACE 27.1 which has a shorter wheelbase we have:
- A Roadmaster steering stabilizer
- Tires aired up based on weight
- Dynamated the doghouse
- Dynamated the floor below the cabin area

I can drive it one handed in all but the worst rain/wind gusts.
The Dynamat has quieted the coach so much it just seems like it rides smoother; it's certainly more comfortable.

IMO all of the entry level RV's on the Ford F53 chassy will be about the same ride (Over all) as yours (depending upon overall weight and wheel size -I hear if you move up to the 22.5 inch size rim size like on Challengers it will smooth out the road some?).

If you want the smoothest ride possible in an RV you will have to get one with air ride suspension which I believe will be all diesel pushers (and very pricey).

You could do all the usual up grades you your RV (If you havent already) its much cheaper than a new RV and you might be happy with that.

Add new shocks, swaybars/rear track air/Saftey Plus steering stabilizer it will help great from what I have read on the F53's.

I know I did all of these upgrades to my Axis and Im very happy with the ride and control (E450 chassy).

Let us know more of what you want/expect and im sure others will chime in with ideas/info.

There are a few 35 - 38 footer Diesel Pushers that will give you the best ride and much quieter than a front engine RV.

The shortest DP is a Tiffin. They offer a 31.6 and like a 33 footer DP (Allegro Breeze) that seems to be reasonable price (for a DP) but not much on towing (step to to Allegro Red for more towing comp.).

They are a step (or two) above a THor produce form what I read.

Worth a look at if thats what your looking for. I know I will be looking at one when I retire (in 10 years or so - I hope).

Thanks, I have thought about some of the upgrades, but haven't done enough research yet. That is why I started this thread.

Any thoughts on the Thor Palazzo? I think it is a DP with air ride.

I looked at a Palazzo that was camped next to us a couple years ago. It was mostly just like our 16 Ace 29.3, only longer. It had a washer/dryer in it as well. Because it was a diesel pusher I am sure it was quieter and had a better ride. The generator was in the very front, which would be quiet when sleeping but is NOT a good idea. You could wake up dead if you get my drift.

So if you like the Ace I think you would like a Palazzo. When I talked to the owners, they paid around $159,000 for it new. Probably a little more today. Do NOT pay the sticker price.

I love my Palazzo; it's about a year old. (Almost) All diesel pushers have the generator in front. I got about 30% off on mine when I bought new.

Tfrynan - - would be interested in hearing more about your dynamat efforts, especially for the floor of your coach. Could you elaborate or point me it the right direction....

Thanks.

We are thinking about the Thor Challenger 37FH. I know we would still have to make some improvements, but it is bigger (also bigger tires) and I think it would handle better. The floor plan looks great and has the washer/dryer hook-ups.
