Vegas/Axis GPS Mount

Hi,

Just down sized from a 5er to an Axis 25.1.

I would appreciate hearing from other Vegas/Axis owners on how they mount their GPS units.

My GPS is a Garmin RV 760. The "bean bag" doesn't work in the available space between the dash cowl and the center console. I am reluctant to drill holes in the dash.

Thanks,

Bruce

I use my phone and put it into the cutout to the left of the driver behind the cup holder. Typically I'll also have someone else navigating with another device as well (their phone, iPad running iExit, etc.).

I have a E450 cab, not an Axis, but I have a Garmin 760. I installed mine using a RAM mount. I bolted the attachment ball to the storage bay in the "doghouse".

I actually bought a new doghouse on eBay as a spare so if I ever discontinued using the 760, I could replace it and have no screw holes showing.

The problem with the 760, or any of the 7" screens is they are big and heavy, and normal attachment methods may not work very well.

I have the first generation center console which has the smooth surface on top. I removed the grip pad and pressed the suction cup for my GPS on the smooth surface and it holds very well. The newer 2015 models are made out of different material. I'm not sure if this would work on the new surface.

Do you have a picture of the installation?

I was considering using the RAM stalk mount.

The suction cup won't even work on the smooth radio surround. It will hold for about a minute and then nose dive.

Also, I travel alone so I need the GPS within easy reach.

The RAM mount I am using (RAM-HOL-GA61LU) includes a sun-shade.

If you have the JRV-212 you could replace it with the JRV-215 (as mentioned in another thread around here). Data for the 215:
JENSEN JRV215N AM/FM/DVD/USB/SXM Bluetooth® stereo with navigation

Although this isn't a cheap option as the only place I've been able to find that sells the 215N lists it (on sale) for $599:
Jensen Stereo, AM/FM/CD/USB/BT/iPOD/Sirius/Navi

Been pondering upgrading to this for our unit...
