Wakarusa Bound...December 10th!!

Got my appointment for December to visit factory and do the tours while the Service Center addresses a list of small items for repairs and adjustments. Nothing overly serious but figured, since I'm heading that way to visit family anyway, why not let the pros do it right the first time. They told me they would do a "tune up" on everything plus spend some time explaining all the operations and locations of things not so easily addressed in the manuals. Looking forward to the visit!! Gonna purchase my 1989 YJ jeep in Michigan while on this trip and bring her home on the trailer. Barn Find with only 70K miles on it.

Cool; make sure its winterized for the trip. December is when the real cold starts to set in.

There is plenty of parking there....

That's what they said...I'll keep eyes on weather as it gets closer. Predictions right now are for a warmer than normal and "slow to come in" cold weather. Long as the fridge works and I have heat...it will work.

I've been there in the heat of the summer, and the coldest/snowiest/iciest day of the year, with 6" of snow and ice... they work regardless...they're used to it.
They also recently expanded for more rv sites around the other end of the building..even more room for more 'visitors'...

We're scheduled to take the Quantum in on the 3rd of December! Have to get a shim kit installed to correct a "port list". Hope the prediction of a mild winter is correct. The last time I took the coach to Walkarusa the parking lot was a sheet of ice. Great fun!

Wakarusa check in

I'm heading out to Wakarusa (gotta be there early Mon morning).

Planning to enter the Thor lot Sunday afternoon/evening.

Does anyone know if there is Security or a cut off time to get in?

(I forgot to ask about that in all my email correspondence with Thor).

Thanks.

No security, its just an open parking lot. Just drive in, pick an empty spot and park/hookup.

awesome stuff, thanks again.

Hoping the weather doesn't get too bad. We're planning to rent a hotel while they work on it...just never know how long things will take.

Not exactly a traditional camping trip, but we're still looking forward to some time on the road!

Depending on what you're getting done you may be able to stay in it.

For my repair they couldn't put it back together enough to let me stay there overnight so I just rented a car and came home (I'm only about 3 hours from there).

The guy told me you can stay in them at night, depending on what they are having to do. It does cause delays, as they have to button everything back up and deliver it to you each night. IMO, it's best to just give it to them and wait on the call when it's done.

Gritz- we got in early on Sun afternoon & slept in the rig Sun night. They had 50 Amp service & I had full propane, so we stayed warm.

Winter Storm Bruce did blow some wind & snow around early Mon morning.

The guy showed up at 7 am sharp to get us checked in & go through our list with us. We had another 1-2 things that came up & he added them to the master list.

He did say it was best if we could let them keep the unit, as that would make things go faster.

We were planning on a hotel nearby, but we're travelling with our dog & the weather turned, so we just decided to drive the 9 hours back home to PA. We figure it just gives us another "road trip" opportunity to go pick it up when they're done.

When we pick it back up, I do hope to stick around a few extra days & do the factory tours & check out all the local attractions.

Oh...we use TMobile and couldn't get a signal at the Wakarusa plant. They do have Guest WiFi, so call ahead to get the pass phrase, just in case you run into cell coverage issues. We had to drive a few miles toward Elkhart to get a signal.

We picked up about 15-20 channels on the antenna, so at least we had that Sun night.

Thanks BandG!! I plan to leave here Friday the 8th, make one stop over and get there Saturday evening. One of my issues is a loud noise coming from furnace (not the normal loud furnace noise we already know) so I'll use generator and portable heaters overnight. Probably hang out Sunday and finalize list. Renting a car and going to Grand Rapids/Lapeer to visit friends. By not staying in it, this will allow more time for them to get the job done quicker as they can leave it in the shop overnight. When are you going back? Did they give you a timeline to finish? I have to be back in ATL by 12/15. Hope it doesn't take more than a couple days. I might see you there.

Wow! I thought I was "taking the long road" by going home (3 hours--thus turning my visit into 12 hours of driving) but 9 hours (for a total drive time of 36 hours wow).

Funny thing was: When they were telling me that I couldn't stay in it overnight they laughed at me "3 hours! LOL go home!".

Gritz - they called today and are estimating our RV to be ready by end of week.
If that holds true, I'll probably head back out this weekend & do the pick up with them on Monday.

Yeah, that wasn't the original plan. My wife wanted to be home by end of week to help with her Dad. She was considering grabbing a flight, if needed.

With the weather yesterday and us hearing that it would be more than a couple of days, we decided to revise the plan & just drive home.

We are both retired now, so when we head back out, it will just be another road trip!
