House batteries dead and don't know why- 2015 Axis

I am a new RV guy. Bought a 2015 Axis a few months ago and checked it out in all respects - everything seemed to work great. Brought it home and serviced everything to get it ready For out forest trip. Had it stored without shore power for a bit and every time I checked it things weren't perfect. Moved it up by my garage and plugged in shore power for a week and now the house batteries are completely dead and don't appear to be getting a charge at all ( only 5.86V) and nothing works until I plug on shore power. I've read a few threads on the matter and loooked at the manual but I wasn't hoping someone had the same issue and could point me in the right direction. I'm suppose to take it on vacation this coming Friday for the first time but need it fixed before I do. Any help I see appreciated .

When you plugged it in did you put the use/store switch on "use"? The house batteries will not charge if the switch is in "store".

Always leave it in "use" unless you are storing it somewhere not plugged in.

Thats pretty low reading even for a dead 12 volt battery. If they are original they are probably due for replacement. Did you check the water level?

No didn’t but I will this evening. Rgyardless, shouldn’t the converter be trying to charge the batteries? When I had it stored unplugged it was perfect but after being plugged in a week they are drained and dead. I don’t believe I left the switch in Use mode though. Not sure if that matters as there person indicated.

I don’t believe so. Will that preven the batteries from being charged

Yes if the use/store switch is in "Store" when plugged in the house batteries will not charge (and in fact will discharge).

After you set the switch in "Use" mode: give it an overnight's worth of shore power, and please let us know how the batteries are looking in the morning!
Good luck!

Well that appears to be what happened. I will unplug it and charge the batteries and then plug back in either the Store switch in Use and see if they are receiving a charge .

I will but I will have to charge the batteries manually to get the Use switch to change. At least that’s what I am thinking because the batteries are completely dead and when I toggle the switch you cannot hear the selenium engage. I appreciate all the feedback and hope it works !

It worked !

I appreciate all the feedback. Two things on this issue. Like the post earlier said the batteries were totally dead due to the Use switch being turned off when the shore power was plugged in ( I didn't know it mattered)so the solenoid would not engage and allow the charger to charge the house batteries even though the shore power was connected. I put an external charger on the batteries for a few hours and they came back to life. Once I disconnected it and engaged the Use switch the charger kicked right on and started charging from 12V to 13V. I also started the generator and it too started charging. Good lesson learned. Thanks to all of you and we are ready to rock on vacation Friday.

Good Day,
Yes, the "use" switch does indeed need to be in "use" not store for the charger to work.
I learned this the first few days I had the new coach home.
How did I learn that? Same way you are learning now.
Ask on this form and someone will share info you are not aware of.
I had mine go down, charged all with my external charger and had everything running again. A week later, dead again.
And by the way, CW sales guy told me to always put this switch in the store position when the coach is not being used. WRONG.
I asked here and the good neighbors here said leave the switch in the use position. I did and it's always ready to go now.
Even being connected to shore power.

Lesson learned.
Happy camping Sir.
