yep, removed the gas strut early one for two reasons: it doesn't allow you to move the door 'out of the way' when you don't want it at 90degrees while you're parked, and the strut 'opens' the door, whether you like it or not!
I added a simple rv door latch/catch and it works very fine. The door can stay 'completely' open when we are parked, and in good weather, and it's out of the way while we 'come and go'.
now, if we could just do something about that 'sticking' screen door!!
