Cheap Handling Fix - F53 Chassis

Yes, I know there are probably dozens of threads on this topic already. But I want to say that if anyone is on the fence about making this modification, DO IT! A couple of wrenches, a bottle jack to raise the sway bar, and a piece of cardboard to lie on - all it takes to make the change.
I did ours a few days ago, and its first test was yesterday, on our way to the Florida Fall Sunshine Rally from Tennessee. Made the first leg of the trip (350 miles) yesterday to St. George SC, and very pleased with the change that the fix made to the road manners of the ACE.

Very slight push from passing 18-wheelers, not nearly as severe as before, and the coach doesn't seem to wander as it did. The only thing I did notice is that when the tires "caught" on the shoulder or in grooves in the pavement, it kinda had a mind of its own and would waver a bit. I believe a steering stabilizer is in our future...

Anyway, thanks to all who have blazed this trail!

Cheers,
Mickey

Glad that the CHF made your ACE behave better Mickey. The CHF was the first mod we made on ours. We really liked the “Cheap”part of the mod and it worked as advertised. Safe travels and have a good time at the rally. Mark

Greetings and Welcome

I'm going to say NO, they should but it would take a half hour on a bare chassis.

It'll be super to check.
POST #16 in this link has a picture of the CHF on the passanger side front sway bar.
If your bolt is still in the front hole, then you need the CHF.

I must be missing something, what is the CHF you wrote about. Installing a new front stabilizer bar?

CHF (cheap handling fix) involves repositioning the mounting points on the sway bar. More here:

(He says 19mm wrench, but mine was 18)

Great idea. I have an Axis but its worth taking a look to see if this also applies.

NO, it does not apply. This applies to the F-53 chassis and you have an E450.

CHF and stabilizer

I have a Safe T steering stabilizer. Is it still OK to do the CHF and if so do you need to get the front end realigned?
Thank you,

Paul

Bad experience

On my 2016 Outlaw 37rb with the Ford f53 chassis, I need longer connecting rods to do the CHF....broke one of the short stock ones due to the extreme angle formed by moving the attachment point. Don't really know how long I drove it with it broken....

Yes you can do both and no alignment needed from doing these mods
