Stair Well
Happy 4th everyone. I bet this question has never been asked before. We have a 5 year old Deaf/Blind Catahoula that travels with us, my concern is that he will fall down the stair well, any suggestions? ACE 30.4
Thanks

Happy Fourth of July: right back atcha!
Can you rig up a covering for your stairwell? You probably have enough room to be able to fold it up out of the way; for when you need access to the stairs.
Good luck; let us know what you come up with!

There have been quite a few people who have put together a cover for the stairwell. Most simply buy some wood and a stick on tile from a home improvement store.

Great idea, can't figure out how to secure it while moving with easy removal when needed

Stair Well
Yes, very solid and stable. Used 1/2” plywood, although 3/8” may be enough. We fold it up and place at base of frig when not using.

Nicely down.
I made a one-piece cover for my steps using some re-planed pallet wood. Had some leftover carpet tiles so I covered it with that. When not in use, it stows out of the way between GF's seat and the bulkhead.

If you have anyone over 200 lbs (like me), half inch was not enough.
I went to 3/4" inch plywood & as long as I don't jump up and down, it can hold my weight.

Just ordered some of this stuff that will accommodate 3/4" plywood. Picture shows it upside down, but the plywood will be inserted in the channel with screws inserted through the sides and the outer flange will overlay the opening. I'll install a drawer pull handle at door side for removal. It will store easily behind the sofa or in a bay compartment. I will cover the wood surface with vinyl similar to floor.

Cut corners at 45 degree angles, weld and polish out burrs. No trip hazard. Opens all the space around it as well. Dogs will claim the spot in transit.

It's the same style extruded aluminum they use for the doors of cargo trailers that allow the doors to close flush and still seal up. do a search on "cargo trailer parts".

Install a drawer pull on the top surface along the door side of platform. Open door from outside and just move it out of the way. Lift handle from inside and move it out of the way.

It should be easy to just reach in over it: and grab it!
EDIT:
Gritz,
We were both hammering on our keyboards at the same time...
Your explanation is a whole lot better than mine!
