Axis 25.2

What chassis is this built on. It's not the F53.

Some older 25.2 from previous model years were also built on E-350 if I recall correctly. New ones are all E-450.

I think 24.1s were the only ones ever put on an E350.

Different from F53? Yes - Everything is different.

Diff than E350? Maybe.

Just make sure you get the right stuff for the E450 chassis.

No, I went back and confirmed it.

If I recall correctly, originally all Axis and Vegas were on E-350, but when there was an issue with exhaust emissions, Thor had to start using the E-450 because it’s a different weight class of vehicle that passed government regulations.

Funny thing is that when they tried to go from E-450 back to E-350 after problem was solved, many owners and prospective owners got pissed because they wanted the extra ~ 2,000 pounds of GVWR and higher GCWR also.

Later as some floorplans got larger and heavier due to 2 slides or full-wall slide, Thor didn’t have an option but to go with E-450. At some point it must have made sense to just build them all on E-450.

Here is example of earlier 25.2 floorplanon on E-350:

Chance,
A problem with the exhaust, like the (incorrectly routed) transmission cable dropping down and melting on the exhaust leaving you pretty much stuck in whatever gear you were in when it happened. Mine was only partially melted when this came to light. Quite the problem there for awhile.
We got our 2016 Model in May of 2015 and by then the 24.1 was on the E-350 but like you said the others were moving up to the E-450.
Nothing like old memories.

They did:
Dual wheels in the front
and
Dual wheels in the rear...

That is: until you hit a bump, and they started coming off!

MoMike,
Thanks. I've been around, just watching and reading.
Still happy with the 24.1 and looking for new mods to do (got one of the locking Potable water caps to put in next weekend).
We are looking at justifying going to the 27.7 for the bigger shower and 2nd slide. Have to make the decision by May 2020 (extended warranty expires).

Safe Travels

Doc
Nice hearing from you Doc.

Yeah, I recall that fiasco also, but that was an unrelated problem that affected early E-350 and E-450 alike. Units with original 5-speed 5R110 transmissions had a shift cable that was too short and routed too close to exhaust.

The exhaust problem I was referring to was emissions related (i.e. — pollution) due to V10 being relatively dirty, so it would pass E-450 standards but not E-350.

So in typical government wisdom, they pushed buyers into spending more on incrementally dirtier motorhomes since engines are the same, but weight went up slightly. Oh well, at least guys wanting a heavier duty chassis got a beefier rear axle.

I was under the impression that you could get a pro-rate refund on extended warranty if you cancel the policy before it expires. But maybe that's not the only reason you're waiting.

Back to the thread topic, our 2016 Vegas 25.2 was built in May of 2015 on a E-350 chassis. I think they used up the remaining 350s and then switched to the 450 shortly after ours was built. So most of the 2016s were on the E-450.
