Axxera replacement recommendation

Does anyone have a recommendation for replacing the Thor installed Axxera double din audio dash system with one that can handle the camera's (rear and side), has bluetooth for cell phone integration and is also GPS equipped?

I highly recommend the Pioneer AVH-4100 NEX. I had the installer put switches in the tiny cubby hole at the bottom for the cams. There are other models that have GPS. I already had the Garmin RV 760 mounted on the dash above the instruments. I prefer that over the radio GPS because it has my RV dimensions and also has RV POIs.

The Pioneer is great. Brighter screen that pivots for glare elimimination. Apple Carplay, HD Radio, and the Bluetooth.

Kenwood makes a unit, DNX571TR, that has trucker/RV navigation installed but I am not sure it can handle three camera inputs (rear and two sides). The unit is pricey at $1200 and was hoping to find something less costly. I did email Pioneer to see if they make a unit that has trucker/RV navigation installed. I also have a Magellan trucker/RV GPS but would like to consolidate into the dash unit if it can handle the cameras and the navigation can be easily updated and preferably at little to no cost. I see that Pioneer makes quite a few units so maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks for the recommendation.

So far I'm happy with my choice! If you have a stereo shop nearby, I would wonder in and play with the different models!

I did a lot of research about replacing the head end unit in my previous RV. I finally figured out how they handled the 3 camera inputs when the stereo only had one. They used something like this:

RV Cams CVS300-01 Three-Camera Switcher With Touch-Screen Control

It basically wires in to the turn signals and the reverse signal and the 3 cameras. Then has one output signal and camera output for the stereo. When you put the gear in reverse or turned on one of the turn signal, the stereo would switch to the correct input.

Something like this would open up what type of stereo you could use, since you'd only need one camera input.

@ Brian442

Did you replace the speakers as well? Maybe it is just the head unit but I think the system sounds very hollow. If I mess with the EQ then I get bass overload very quickly. What if anything did you change besides the head unit?

Hey Hoosier,

No, I did not replace my speakers. I found that by making the noise reduction mods really helped with the sound quality. The doghouse mod was pretty easy as was the dash mod, since the dash cover was off for the stereo installation.

This is the camera controller/switch that came factory installed on my Challenger. One RCA plug into the back of the Axxerra radio for the cameras. All other camera connections (turn signal and reverse triggers) are done at the camera controller and not the radio. There may also be a wire for the rear camera microphone going into the radio as well.

Voyager Multi-Camera Controller

If this installed on yours you should be able to use any radio which allows for connecting a camera. Might want to verify the radio will allow full time viewing of the rear camera while listening to music.
