My 40" TV uses about 200 watts, I have powered it with a 300 watt inverter plugged into the dash 12v port, cost about $50.

A permanent larger inverter would be better for other electrical needs.

For those who wish to install an inverter with auto-transfer switch, this is the one most of us use in the Vegas/Axis. Great inverter to run your non-GFCI outlets. No need to run generator while driving (unless you need air conditioning). It's 1200w, pure sine wave.

Battery capacity didn't come up in this discussion. Something else you may want to consider...

I figure this is a safety feature, but my kids want to be able to watch a movie while we travel. Thanks for your input!

The Original Post was looking for a solution to use his TV for his kids while driving. He was using his generator, but the outlet was disabled.

I Agree though if you are going to add a 1200 watt inverter you more than likely need to expand your battery bank.
