Capping off outside shower

While getting the Axis ready for our last trip, I noticed that there was a lot of light coming from the outside shower. It was light outside and dark inside the coach. I have also noticed that there is a draft coming from behind the sofa when the temperature differential is great between the outside and inside temperatures.

The outside shower box is full of holes and doesn't seem to be very air tight.

I also always forget to run water through the outside shower at least once during the de-winterize, bleach, and flush procedure.

I am contemplating capping off the outside shower water lines where the connect to the pex tubing and insulating the box somehow.

Anyone taken this on or have any brilliant ideas on how to insulate the box without removing it?

Maybe spray insulating foam around the inside of the box. That outside shower always seemed to me, that it would be so much more useful if it was on the other side of the coach.

Is there any way to get in behind the box?
That would give you more options, as far as how to seal and/or insulate it.

Yes, I can get to the back of the box. I have the 25.2 and it has the jack knife sofa. That's how I was able to see all of the light. When de-winterizing, I prop open the sofa so that I can see the fresh water tank. There was a whole bunch of light coming from the box.

The box has great big holes in it for the shower hose to "store" back in the RV. I use quotes there, because I've never been able to get more than a few inches back out!

I thought I saw somewhere (don't remember if it was here or somewhere else on the internet) about someone taking rigid insulated foam and cutting a square of it to fit inside the box.

As long as you can get to it: your options are pretty much limitless!
Let us know what you come up with, and the best of luck to you with this project!

I find the outside shower mostly useless. If you leave the pump on and take off for a hike, anyone can come along and drain your fresh water. I want to at least put a shutoff valve inside.

Outside Shower

Personally, I would fix the problem rather than disabling or blocking it off. If you can see behind the shower box, you can find the right kind of insulation or sealer to finish it off as it was intended. Sounds like a typical installation job and the time of manufacture. Our sewer drain locker on our 24.1 was shoddily done with large openings where the sewer pipes route into the box. I had the dealership seal it up as was the original intent. You may go to sell the coach some day and that might be the item that someone would want to use. Just a thought.

Security for your Outdoor Shower

The comments can be true but full of humor. None of these rigs are Fort Knox as far as security is concerned. I hear of more comments on the forum of their rigs being screwed with while they are in a paid storage facility than any other location. I admit, that I have only opened our outdoor shower a few times but you never know, I may really use it some day.

Sure would be nice to have shut-offs to the outside shower and kitchens that are easy to get to. Kinda like a partial winterize.

Locks are meant to keep out the "honest" criminals: we all know that!
I guess that you guys just tipped your hands...

You'd have to know that it was there (behind a locked door); to be able to use it anyway.

Like was said above, it would be nice to have shut-off valves to the outside shower. Like the OP said, I am always worried that water will be in the lines. I never use the thing, but have to remember to flush it when winterizing.
P.S. I think I'll ad shut-off valves to my "to do" list.

Agree security levels are pretty low on most all RV's. Any that I know of that have been broken into, or screwed with, happened while being stored, not at RV parks. Choose your storage location carefully. I store mine in its own closed, locked garage. Yes I pay a premium for that storage, but its completely protected from any weather when its not in use, and far more secure. Factoring that in, cost is probably not that different than storing outside, somewhere.
