DirecTv

Thinking of buying a home style DirecTV satellite antenna and using our home Genie temporarily while on the road. Has anyone fabricated a stand that can be attached to the rear ladder while traveling and work as a stand on the ground when removed from the ladder?

Our son purchased one from Amazon, travels all over US, Canada and Alaska. If you know how to point the dish it works great.

A couple strong bungie cords should tie one of these to your ladder.

The Genie will not work with Direct TV in an RV. You need to use the older model Direct TV receiver and remote. That's what I'm using.

The HR-44/54 genie and the HS-17 genie 2 will work well with a Slimline 2 reflector with either a SL-3LNB for HD or a 3DRB2LNB for 4K and HD. Both are SWM LNBs, so one wire from the LNB to the receiver. The Skywalker 5ft tripod works well with the Slimline 2 dish. I use a smaller Winegard tripod. There are smart phone apps that will get you close to the 101 sat signal, but you need to use a good meter for best results. I recommend a Satlooklite meter. It can be programed for only one sat signal and also will power the LNB for about 30 minutes while you align the dish. It shows signal strength and error rate received by the LNB. For HD TVs, I recommend you go wireless. A C-41W client attached to each TV by a short HDMI cable and you are to power up to 4 TV with different programing. The modern LNBs will support 200 ft of coax so even under trees you can always find a place for the dish to receive a good signal.

Thanks! Good info.
