2014 24.1 axis maiden voyage: two big questions

We are not new to RVing, but new to our 'lil Smidge.

The two big questions:

1. Where do you put the trash??
2. Where do you stash the clothes headed for the laundromat?

Okay, so it's more than two.

3. Where might the medium size border collie's dog bed go? We keep tripping over it.
4. Recommendations for windshield sun/heat help?

Any mods from the Command Strip/binder clip/Velcro/repurpose gurus? We're all ears.

Spent first 2 nights at USFS Box Elder cg. #18 by the creek. Fit in turnout nicely w slide open.

Smidge,

Welcome to the Forum. We have a 2016 Vegas 24.1 and here is what we did:

1. Trash, we have a small trash can with pop up top (from Bed, Bath and Beyond) that fits between the passanger seat and the side of the RV while traveling. Once set up and the slide is out it can move over to between the back of driver's chair (I seldom rotate it around) and the side of the slide.
2. Dirty Clothes, we have a collapsable hamper that sits in the shower stall to collect dirty clothes...just move it into the bedroom at shower time.
3. Dog Bed, I cut a piece of 5/8" plywood that fits over the stepwell, painted it with black textured paint and place it over the steps when driving and/or at night time. The dog's bed (Black Lab) fits there out of the way.
4. Went with a product called Magna Shade to cover the front windshield. It is discussed many time this forum, or just Google it.

Hope some of this helps out. Safe Travels!

DocMike

Our English Sheppards sleep on floor, couch, etc. The older one cannot get on bed but young one does.

At 3 AM on night, the young one fell off bed and landed on old guy. What a wake up call. They don't fight, but the old guy squealed like hell.

They were both okay. We keep everything covered include dash when parked. Old guy like passenger seat after the young girl opens curtain on was outside dash screen.

Dirty clothes in bags in outside bin.

Trash in latch cover type small container by driver seat in corner.

  1. Trash: We have a tiny can that fits in the tall cabinet under the sink (and have a larger one that sits outside)
  2. Dirty clothes: Use the long storage spot under the driver's side bed--just lift bed and toss clothes in
  3. Dog bed: no pets, no problem
  4. Use a Sunguard RV windshield cover--although I think if I had to do it again I'd use the magne shade

Magneshades are very impressive, not cheap, but fit like a glove. I am thinking of also purchasing their inside side shades.

Thanks for the reply. That is where our laundry is currently residing, so that's nice to hear. Funny how I now see the trash spot after you mentioned it, but couldn't think of a place before. Will try dog bed over stairs. So then you store the dog bed somewhere during the day so you don't trip over it?

The doggy bed is seldom not in use. When we are at a site, the doggy mattress is outside on the mat under the awning next to the box fan ("Satin Doll" is our 11 year old Black Lab, she has diabetes, hip dysplasia and just recently tore her rear rt ACL)...so she is pampered while camping. When it is not in use we just put it on the bed in the back (we keep it setup as the kingbed).

BTW: Satin will be at the Vet tomorrow for a glucose work up, the insulin is just about dialed in...then we work on the repair of the ACL.

For all her wear and tear Satin still loves to go RV'ing and exploring the campsites!

I'm with Jamie on the trash location. We have a big window shade from CW for the front, props up between the windshield and the front curtain. We use a drawer under the fridge for dirty clothes, and sometimes a bag in the shower, too.
No suggestions on placing pets. When we check in to a campground, it's "No kids, no pets, no problems!"

Will Satin Doll need rehab after the repair?

Smidge,
Yes, rehab and close "human supervision" to keep her from over doing things. Satin has been a Therapy Dog for the last 7 years, she still goes to the nursing home (only once or twice a month for now) and only to the recreation room and the residents come there to see her!

We really like our Magna Shades. Had them made, installed and demonstrated at the Factory in Mocksville NC. A great group there.

Agree with the MagneShades. Very pleasant people to talk to when ordering over the telephone. Recently bought windshield wiper covers from them to augment the other shades.
