First 'long' trip after CHF

Did the CHF on my 29M and took a 400 mile trip to the coast. The coach was easier to handle and not bothered, as much, by passing big rigs. Glad I joined this forum for tips and tricks.

Awesome huh? I did the front and rear and was amazed with the results. Unlike everyone else I decided to go with the Air Lift bags as opposed to the Sumo springs. Couldn’t be happier.

Happy camping !

Everyone seems to like the CHF. But I am well pleased with my coaches handling in stock configuration. I asked my trusted truck suspension guy about doing it while he was doing my alignment and he strongly advised against it. Couldn’t seem to give me a reason though.

Doing the CHF isn’t possible on your coach, only applies to class A coaches.

More specifically CHF only works on the Ford F-53 chassis, not his E-350 or E-450. (I'm only qualifying here because there are Class A's not on the F-53--e.g. DP's and Axis/Vegas units.)

Glad to hear that there's a whole lot less "white-knuckling" going on!
Congratulations!

Jamie, thanks for being more clear than I was, senior moment I guess

I should have said F-53 only

I’ve seen a couple of reports stating Ford is scheduled to upgrade the F-53 chassis for 2020 Model Year. That’s only a little over a year from now.

Automated emergency braking and lane departure warning have been mentioned. It would not surprise me if they don’t address cross-wind stability also. I’m not interested in present F-53, but if modernized I may consider it, particularly if offered in smaller weight ratings.

Whether Ford upgrade mechanically and or electronically, I’d like to see CHF not be needed.

Interesting as the Ford heavy truck plant in Louisville, KY does not build the striped RV chassis and has never built them. Detroit Chassis LLC is the sold manufacture under contract to Ford. FOMOCO supplies few of the parts used by Detroit Chassis. Since the suit of electronics noted would require a complete redesign of the stripped chassis and would have to meet the needs of the five major coach manufacture

Ford had announced the would stop the manufacturer of the V-10 in 2020 in favor of a 7.4 L V-8 in their heavy truck line, so it is safe to assume a major change will also occur at Detroit Chassis.
In other words stay tuned.

The reported upgrade does coincide with anticipated 7.3L V8 replacement of ancient V10, which makes reports more believable. Of course, there is a tiny bit of formal news from Ford and tons of speculation, so hard to say what’s actually accurate. New V8 seems a certainty unless program is cancelled midstream.

I just completed the CHF on my windsport 29m it took a little over an hour with a buddy of mine who had real tools and a shop to finish the front and rear. OMG what a difference. It took away most of the sway back and forth and tightened everything up. With out a doubt totally worth it. Will drive it for about how hours tomorrow up to Rocky Mountain national park. We will see how it goes. Next on the list is the alignment. Thanks everyone!
