Power supply to Toad Charger ???

Is it acceptable to run from the 4 wire trailer light bundle ( brown wire) to the trickle charger on the toad battery?? I am setting a jeep up to tow with a ACE 29.2, and have the RVI-3 system with toad charger. Thinking i could just tap the running lights line - as i always drive with those lights on. Was also considering that for a 12v feed to a second rear camera. Opinions appreciated - Thanks

There is a charge wire on the 7-wire trailer plug specifically to charge the trailer's (or toad's in this case) battery.

4 wire connector doesn’t have a power wire - only has wires to run the tail lights. You need to provide wires for power and ground. The ground wire in a 4 wire setup may not be suitable for use with a charger. You probably need to have your rig set up with either a 7 wire or 6 wire plug

MH should have a 7 spade round female connection, if you’re using a new 7 to 4 adapter change it to a 7 and add a charge wire.

To answer you question.....
No , the brown wire is not heavy enough to carry both the running lights and charge current for the toad battery. Especially if the toad battery is low on charge.

I bought a small solar battery charger from amazon. The panel sets in the windshield and I run the wire out the door into the hood were it hooks into the battery. The system has a device to help keep the battery from being over charged.

If you want to stick with the 4 wire hook-up: why not just fire the Jeep up at the end of a day's journey, and let it's alternator get some useful exercise?
