Gun Safe Ideas?

No kids so I carry most of the time. When unable due to local/state (amendment infringements) I find the drivers door is a good place as well as in a quick draw holster mounted under the drivers dash to the right of the wheel. When not carrying and leaving the RV I lock it up in an onboard safe with quick bio lock. Additionally I generally carry an AR15 assault rifle and up to three 30 round mags onboard complete with tactical light, prism and longer range scopes. Concealed in a custom built in easily and rapidly accessible to me.

The under dash holster set up was about $75.00 and the pro-carpenter billed me $285.00 for the built in.

If I die I never want it to be because I failed to act or failed to shoot back. NOT AN OPTION!

A good choice for home defense is a hinge-action shotgun with an 18" barrel. Short, light, and easy to fire: the rounds that they fire are less likely to over-penetrate, and cause problems for your neighbors.

I see your 18" shotgun and raise you 2 AR's and an AK. past 35 yards your shotgun will just make em mad. But for close in it's great.

The 5.56 mm rounds might only penetrate three or four RVs around you...

Too much button? Cough, Cough! No such thing as too much. Once you pull the trigger you own it. Even a girl knows the responsibility of "Fire control". It's not how many you throw downrange it's how many of those hit the mark.

and you know what? Some RV's just don't have a too much button!

But since you mentioned the part about punching through several RV's in the haste to get a bad guy I decided to invest in a new RV defense weapon.

The subject is self defense and how to carry in a motorhome. A shotgun is a great option. We train at 7 and 12 yards. Anything past this would cause serious problems for you. While I have the "heavy guns" you speak of, carrying them in a motorhome, absent of heading on a hunting trip, doesn't make sense. If you're shooting at anything 35 feet away...it would be a tough case for self defense.

Interesting posts for sure. Personally, I carry a 9mm handgun all the time including inside my home due to all the home invasions today and also in my own neighborhood. As far as defense, one can go to the extremes. Knew a fellow years ago when I lived in CA. on Sacramento Delta area that did canvas work on boats. He spent 5 years sailing from West Coast USA to HI. then down to Fiji, Indonesia, Thailand etc. and other Islands then around the world back to West Coast.
For his self defense during that time, he carried couple handguns, rifles and I don't know how he got them but he did let me see them on his sailboat, 2 RPG's and an M-79 grenade launcher. Had them hidden well in his 45' sailboat contained in a water proof compartment he built between the hull and salon liners to rear of his fridge and stove areas. I imagine he picked them up along the way while he was somewhere in another country. I didn't ask, he didn't say. Some serious fire power for the hard core traveler.
He lived on his boat in Discovery Bay CA. for several years, made a ton of money doing canvas work, then off somewhere else. Name was Ken, a big guy about 6'4", ex marine, wore jump suits, full head of white hair.

Mount a gun rack by the door and keep a pump action 12 gauge loaded with 00 buck shot. And get an ankle holster that will stay concealed under your pajama bottoms in case you get attacked during the night.

Being a woodworker, I am making a cabinet that will fit at the end of the bed. The cabinet will have a secret compartment that can only be opened by pressing a button in a hidden location. This compartment will hold an M-4 rifle, and a handgun. Nobody would ever think to search that area because the opening is disguised. I made a similar one for my truck that had a secret opening.

I know the sell things like clocks and other things that are made to conceal a gun, but if you know a woodworker, you could have them make something similar.

I suppose he did. He sailed around some dangerous areas, mostly with 1 other person for crew at times that needed transportation to other places via crew trade off for the trip, but then some times alone island hopping. Also sailed up Red Sea through Suez Canal. If he would have been caught with what he had, he would never see daylight again in many of the countries he traveled. He was that kind of guy who seemed to not sweat the chance.

Both of our coaches now have had washer dryer cabinets, so I bought a Stack-On metal gun cabinet that's big enough for the antique rifle that I own and all of our valuables like jewelry cameras, etc. and that's what we use. We store it in the washer dryer cabinet since we opted not to have a washer dryer.

Since it's one of their valuables: it's stored in the metal gun cabinet also!
