Upcoming mod for the Challenger - TV

Well they did it to me again. Went to buy a new Blu Ray player and my wife convinced the store to throw in an LG 55 inch 3D 4K UHD OLED curved TV and LG 4.1 sound bar system for free. Those true 4K Blu Ray players are expensive.

Since the primary person involved in this effort was the DW (thinks the curved TV looks "sexy") I now have to do something with my 46 inch Sharp Aquos LED HDTV, with which I was perfectly happy. My wife suggested a donation to charity, however, with trusty tape measure in hand I walked out to the coach and determined that although it will be a tight fit it looks like the living area SEIKI TV will be replaced with a QAM compatible Sharp. This may however necessitate the replacement of the Vizio sound bar with an LG low profile sound bar so the television's controls are not partially hidden.

Since the new television will be delivered in a couple of weeks I will start this effort after our trip planned for the following weekend. The things I do to keep DW happy.

That is funny. In our family I'm usually the one bringing home the new TV when we don't need it.

Well folks as mentioned earlier the Seiki in the coach living area was taken out and replaced by the 46 inch Sharp Aquos form the house family room.

First, a picture of the Seiki that was in the coach living area and you can see all of the space around the television. This TV was attached to a couple of metal brackets which were screwed to cabinet grade plywood which was screwed to a couple of pieces of 1/4 particle board. Basically 4 2 inch square head wood pocket screws held this television in place.



The TV removed and plywood repositioned. I did not like the way it felt so off to Lowes I went.



I attached 2 pieces of 1/4 (real wood) for additional support and used about 14 screws reattaching everything. It is not going to move.

Earlier in the day I went to HHGregg and purchased a fixed wall mount for 37 - 55 inch televisions and used that to mount the Sharp. Here are 2 oics of the finished project. The first pic is playing a downloaded episode of Downton Abbey from my IPad.





Another project done. Notice the difference in open space around the Seiki and Sharp.

It took an extra hour to complete the project because of testing all connections. After helping me with the install Kathy went into the bedroom and was doing something. When I started playing the download of Downton to test the connections she came out of the bedroom, sat on the couch and started watching. When I turned it off all hell broke loose with the final command from the General being turn it back on and either sit down and watch or get out. Needless to say ....

Until you mentioned the warranty issue I didn't realize I blew my extended warranty on this one television. The extended warranty covers OEM or dealer installed electronics to include televisions. Since this one is neither OEM nor dealer installed it is one TV not covered. Oh well, still glad I did it.
