Awnng Tie Downs?

Hi All,

I have a question about awning tie downs. My coach has the awning style that extends straight out with arms storing parallel to the awning when retracted. To me, it doesn't seem like the design could be very wind resistant. Last night I had the awning out while parked at the house and a small wind gust blew and it looked as though the awning was going to blow straight up.

Is there a special tie down for this style awning?

Thanks!

Jody,

Who is the manufacturer and model of your awning (you should have a manual providing this info)? If it is a variation of the Carefree Travel'r awning Carefree makes a wind sensor system that will automatically retract the awning in high winds. It is the Direct Response system.

I'll look when I get home. Is that something I can install myself or does it need to be dealer installed?

It would depend on how handy you are and where your awning switch is inside the coach. A new cable would have to be run and it requires two switches rather than one single switch.

The way my extended warranty is written if it is installed by a dealer it is covered, if I do the installation it is not covered.

Just got back from the shake-down trip and I discovered my awning has the wind sensor installed. I was watching the awning closely as the wind picked up and right at the point I was going to retract it, it started retracting on its own!

That was a nice surprise!
