JEEP JL Flat Tow Question
I just purchased a 2019 Jeep JL (Sport S). I will be flat towing it behind my 2017 Thor Vegas 24.1 using a blue ox tow bar and base plate. I will also have a braking system attached inside the jeep. The Jeep also has a Mopar 2" lift along with Currie adjustable front/back track bars...
My question is about tire size on the Jeep. Currently the jeep has 245/75/17 and I would like to have a taller and wider tire. Will going to larger tire size, say 33" or 35" have an effect on towing. Will a wider base on the jeep have any effects on the Vegas 24.1? Any information would be helpful...
Thanks

You want the tow bar as level as possible. I have been told 1.5 inches either way is ok, much more than that you may need a drop or raised hitch adapter to level it out. I just bought a new JL and am getting the towing components now. Now I just need to decide on a MH to pull it!

You will have more resistants with the larger (well wider) tires. The less aggressive the tread the less rolling resistants to the RV (less HP/TQ to mantain speed or climbing hills/Mtns).
I have a 92 YJ with 33x12.5x15 tires on mine (BF Goodrich AT) and when I let off the gas its slows down much quicker than what the oem street tires did.
Before the BFG's I had an aggressive mud tire and they were the worst on road handling, wondering and rolling resistants. So I suggest an AT type tire (or aggressive street type tire?)
So thats something to keep in mind when shopping for new tires for your Jeep.
To be clear I am NOT towing my Jeep with my Axis (yet). Not sure what I want to do.... the old Jeep is not very confortable + lots of miles on it and hard to get in an out (jacked up 5 + inches)... I might get a newer jeep for towing and leave it mostly stock.

I suppose that a good question to ask is:
How do you plan on using the Jeep?
Will you be rock crawling with it; or mall hopping?
If it's the latterL: get yourself some high mileage, low rolling resistance street shoes for it, and you'll be a lot happier with how it tows.
If it's the former: and just put up with the tires wearing out much sooner...

and put up with lower speeds on hills + less MPG.
