Gas cap
Oh wow! Thanks for letting me know that. I did have a bit of a misfire just before that came on because I left my lights on and didn’t do a good job of using the emergency start. I already have the gas cap ordered, but you sure eased my mind knowing that it takes 3 starts to clear the light. Thanks a lot!

Luckily, I discovered another thread in which someone discovered this cap (in pic below) which works. One person had tried it on their Freedom Elite and another on a Vegas 27.7. Picked it up at my NAPA dealer this morning and it went right on. Well, after I figured out that you can't put it on while it is in the "locked" position!

Had one and stopped using it. too much hassle.

I found that I had to put the gas cap key on the same ring as the ignition key.
If not, our little dachshund will step on the door lock button, while looking out the window, and wondering where you went!
LOL

Make sure you test it after you put it on and lock it. I found with it locked, I could just twist it and take it off with little effort.

Found a Stant 10510 which cross references to NAPA 703-1723 for $6.00 on Amazon. Ordered for delivery Monday, I'll post results then.

I got the new gas cap. Drove over to the mall (start 1), stopped for gas (start 2), left gas station (start 3). The light is still on. No change in performance whatsoever. You think I should give it a few more tries or get it into the mechanic? Thank you for your help.

Did you zero out the light and it came back on? The light will not go out until you reset it with an OBD II device.

I believe it’s the gas cap, but it could also be a mis-fire.
We get it more often in CA because of our very “special”, very expensive fuel.

I didn’t have any luck with it going out automatically after the “3rd driving cycle”. Tempted just to keep trying. Someone mentioned resetting with OBDII device. You didn’t find that necessary?

Taylor bob replied that it went out after the “3rd driving cycle”. No mention of needing to use a OBDII device. Guess I may need to get mine out and see if that will do it.

It should give you a code that you can look up on the internet and it will tell you which sensor is going off. In my Axis and Miata, once the engine light goes on, it stays on until I zero it out with my scan gauge. In my Vegas a sensor was activated during some thunderstorms. Only happened three times, early on. I zeroed the engine lights out and it did not reappear for several months.

I’ll give that a try. Now just to find my scan gauge and try to remember how to use it! Hah!

It Worked! Found that ol’ scan gauge, YouTubed it and erased the code. Seemed to have its origins in that misfire. Didn’t come back on when I restarted and backed into the carbarn. AND I have a new gas cap. Ta Dah! All is well. Thanks for your help.
