MaxxAir Vent Covers

I have a Thor Freedom Elite with the standard air conditioner. It is parked under a carport and the AC cowl clears with about 6 inches of space. I want to install 4 maxxair vent covers myself. Before I purchase for those of you that have these installed. Do they sit at the same height as the AC cowl? I ask because if I get more than 2 inches above I will have a problem.
Thanks for the assist!

I don't remember the numbers...but I have two kinds on mine...well actually three...the fantastic fan "ultrabreeze" cover, the MaxxFan Deluxe has it's own built in cover, and a Camco cheapo RV vent cover. the camco one replaced a Maxxair standard cover.

My Coleman mach 15 has always been the highest point (when my antenna is down )

Thank you. Before I asked I tried to get the answer from a dealer and it was not CW. They could not provide one.

I just took a quick look at my 30FE and it appears the black MaxxAir covers are considerably shorter than the air conditioner. I'd estimate about 3" lower than the top of the A/C cowl.

MaxAir vent covers are 9" tall

That's about what I was seeing also...
Your A/C unit will still be the highest part that you need to worry about.

Stay away from some of the knock offs. While considerably cheaper, they won't let you open the vent cover all the way. Ask me how I know...

I installed these over two of my vents and they worked great.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can open the vents almost all the way... not completely open but far enough that they still work fine and no worries of rain getting in or hail/ storm damage to the vent cover itself.

Now if I could just find something to protect the shower skylight......

As state above, you should be OK.....the top of the MaxxAir vents on our 24F are a good 6 inches lower than the top of the A/C.

why are you looking to "protect" it?
It's already sealed-up, and leak-free. (Hopefully!)

I can't answer for him, but I can guess based on my dome....
My dome was getting brittle after only a couple years...and the inside shower plastic was starting to yellow.
plus I was always just a little concerned about hail or falling branches and such.

So when I was getting my roof done by rvroof.com, they offered to overspray the dome and I took them up on it. Actually I went ahead and bout a new lower profile dome and replaced it before they sprayed. Their coating completely covered it, blocking all the sun and really helping to keep the RV much cooler.....+ a person could stand on the dome, not that I do, but they had a demo that proved it... anyway, I have never regretted it.

Pretty much the same reason as blw2.... but mine is not brittle yet.

I would like to cover the shower skylight is to protect it from possible hail or storm damage. That is the reason I put the Aero-Flo vent covers on the two vents that weren't protected with the MaxxAir covers.

It is all perfectly clear to me now.
I thought you were worried about N.S.A. spy satellites peeking at you during showers...

Ha ha...that's actually one point I'd miss if my dome had been at all transparent. looking up into the trees and getting the natural light while showering would be good...
but still. I don't regret sealing it over.

Judge
just brainstorming here based on my rvroof.com coating... I think if I were in your shoes with no reason to fix a leak with a full roof, I would think about maybe coating that dome with something tough...like maybe bedliner in a can maybe. You'd have to confirm how well that stuff might stick to the plastic dome, or hurt it...and I would be extremely careful to mask off the roof membrane and other areas from over spray and drips. I have no idea if that stuff would damage the roof or not...
otherwise, those domes are very easy to replace and there are different styles and qualities available.

Thanks for the idea.... it's a possible good option. Between Rhino Lininf and LineX those might be options. I'll have to do a little research.

I have seen some metal cages for skylights, etc. but then you are drilling and mounting into the roof, which I would like to avoid.

How about some heavy-duty adhesive; to hold it in place?

Thanks to all of you. I had the covers installed and really like them. Since they are not attached to the roof, but the vent cover they make a little noise....but hey the blinds drown them out almost!

Are they rattling?
It sounds as if somebody left a screw (or three) loose!

I installed the Aero-Flows and they mount onto the vent housing as well. I get no additional noise from them.

One of the reasons I selected them over the MaxxAir is they were more aerodynamic. Are you get noise from air or rattling as Bob asked?

It is more of a low speed sound as they raise and lower on the vent cover. I had 4 covers, which would be 16 screws and brackets all together. I counted and checked and they are attached correctly They are new as is the coach. The sound does go to nothing as you hit highway speed, which indicates to me the aerodynamic lift principle seems to work. You can only hear them at low speeds. I think perhaps that I might just be being sensitive to the sound as this is my first class C. It may just be reading others nightmare stories combined with the fact that I am used to a Travel Trailer. Since you do not ride in those you hear nothing. I did take it back when I heard the sound and they told me the only way to stop that "low speed" sound was to attach them to the roof. Currently they are attached to 4 vents, in a 24 foot coach, in that small space you hear most things. I will try the felt trick and see how that goes. They may just need to wear a bit.
It was not CW that did the install and I do trust the company that did the placement and work.
