Mileage help on Thor fe22
Has anyone installed an $300 air filter in a gas thor? I saw someone added it to their diesel and improved their mileage. I don't know anything about these except the cost, but if we can get 2 or more miles to the gallon, I would love to try it.

Car and truck manufacturers spend tens-of-million of dollars trying to improve gas mileage and pollution emissions on their vehicles (as mandated by Congress). GM estimates they have spent over one hundred million dollars in developing direct cylinder injection for their engines. It is not that direct injection made the engines run any better than port injection but it does improves fuel mileage by almost 3% and pollution by 9%. Wouldn't it be great if a magic air filter could save the industry that much money?

Replacing the factory paper filter in a V10 with a K&N filter proved to add on average about a 1 mpg improvement for us. However, it did require me to do the maintenance on the filter when needed and there was also a small but noticeable increase in engine noise due to the change in air flow.

At 1 mpg savings for $300 it would take how long to realize ANY kind of savings. I was always taught on any engine if you improve air flow in you also need to improve exhaust out. Banks has the whole system, but it's going to be a bit more than $300 & you MIGHT gain 2-3 mpg. On the V10 a 1 mpg gain means you most likely went from 7 mpg to 8. If 8-10 mpg is a concern for anyone then probably shouldn't start rving, whether towing or driving they will all be in that average range, no after market add-ons are going to help enough to invest the $$$.

Actually the 1 mpg increase was realized rather quickly. The cost was $49 for the Air Filter and no exhaust changes. I owned the truck for 10 years and traveled thousands of miles. Everyone's results will differ due to driving technique, weather, road conditions, altitude, GCVW, and so forth. I guess I should have never got into RVing then because MPG has always been a concern for me.

I also had the K&N drop-in filter in 2 previous vehicles & also noticed about a 1 mpg increase, but my point was in those thousands of miles I probably didn't recoup to cost of the filter or the kits to recharge it occasionally in the fuel mileage savings.
Also regarding "you" not getting into rving, that was just general information to ANYONE looking to purchase any rv, don't expect good fuel mieage, if by chance you find one that will make 10 mpg average you're very lucky.

I know as is, to only expect 6-8 mpg. However, should someone come up with a simple solution to increase that, I am open to having my hubby install it. We are a country of problem solvers, so let's solve this.

5Star Tuner claims to improve mileage with the re-tune. I have recently installed but not had a change to confirm improved mileage. The cost is $430 with iRV2 forum discount.

I would love to hear about results when you get to test it out.
We bought the cheapest Rv to test out to see of we were going to like it. We spent over 10k to make it what we love, so a few more $$ spent on extra milage would be great, plus heated tanks.
