Motorcycle lift

Has anyone installed a motorcycle lift on the back of their RV? Am looking at a Hydralift and wondered if there were any comments or suggestions...

Ron designed and had built, (before they were mass produced) a rack for his Dual Sport 650 Suzuki ... he runs it up on the ramp ... has added a couple stabilization bars on either side of the hitch .. he has spots where he can hook his tie downs

He inherited an aluminum ramp from a friend which he has used too.

Both are manual .. he knows nothing about hydraulic lifts ..

When we take the dresser and the dual sport, we pull a trailer ..
He would caution you regarding the size of bike you are placing on the lift..he would not put his dresser on the back of the coach.

pipe protruding past hitch enables tie-downs on both sides of m/c

Thanks for the pics vkb. I have to do something similar: need to put a small motorcycle, 2 standup paddle boards and 2 bicycles on the back.
Should be interesting. Have not welded since college but luckily I have a friend who knows what hes doing. Will post pics when I get it done.

Have fun ! Ron designed this and took it to his welder/fabricator ... it works so well .. it is important that the stabilizing pipes be in place so the rack does not rock .. this thing is so stable we do not know it is back there..he always checks his tie-downs when we stop for gas/food etc.

Keep us posted on your progress !

Thanx for the feedback and pictures. Have seen a couple of RV's with lifts installed and it sparked my curiosity...

I also looked into various types of motorcycle options. The main problem is the tongue weight. The hydraulic lift weighs a couple hundred pounds. Add in your motorcycle and you will be at or over the max - either 500 or 800 pounds depending on which specs you believe. I also have a 29.2. As poor as the handling already is, that heavy of a weight at the rear will really make the steering squirrelly. I have a friend with a tag diesel and a touring HD - he even notices a dramatic change in the feel.

Just my two cents!

There is another thread ( idaho tote) regarding motorcycle lifts/racks, etc.
We posted more photos on that thread.
Rons Dual Sport which he places on the rack weighins at about 380lbs.
(he has used that for over 10 years with no problem and, obviously no weight problem)
He has a 6x10 enclosed trailer for the dresser which can accomodate both bikes.

Finally got everything mounted on the back of the RV: one small dual sport motorcycle, two standup paddle boards, and two mountain bikes. Thanks to vkb for the inspiration for beefing up the carrier.
